The AMC Hornet is a little-known American compact car from the 1970s that has fallen by the wayside, though it does have the unfortunate honor of sharing its platform with the likes of the AMC Gremlin and Eagle. Perhaps the car is best known for a wild bridge jump in the 1974 Roger Moore James Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun. The BMW M Roadster, meanwhile, is a high-performance version of the Z3 that became famous for appearing in the first Pierce Brosnan James Bond film Goldeneye. What do these two cars have in common besides Bond movies? Well, the answer used to be nothing—but not anymore. A peculiar Craigslist ad in Seymour, outside of Knoxville, Tennessee, features an AMC Hornet with the heart of a BMW M Roadster.

Swap It All

Of course, the best thing about the M Roadster is that it massively upgraded the Z3's rather anemic original powertrain. The Craigslist post claims that this Hornet features an M Roadster's chassis, interior, and drivetrain—so that inline-six under the hood should be either an S52 or S54 engine, sourced from an E36 or E46 M3, respectively. The other option would be a European-market S50, though that would significantly increase value and would probably have been noted. Regardless, the BMW powerplant represents a significant improvement on the Hornet's original unit, which maxed out at 175 horsepower.

Interior Amenities

The car's interior is pure BMW, down to the aggressive red trim and leather highlights, plus all the gauges possible in the center stack. The listing claims that the air conditioning, power steering, and four-wheel disc brakes all work perfectly. With a price tag of only $14,500 for a James Bond mashup, this one shouldn't be on the block for too long, so get it while you can.
