There are many reasons you might want to swap the engine in a car. Perhaps it's simply your old engine is life expired and needs replacing. Or, perhaps you are modifying your car and want something that produces a bit more excitement. In an understated way, that is exactly what lead Johan Jakelid to swap the engine out in his Volvo C70. No longer is it powered by a Volvo inline-five. Instead, this C70 is now powered by a Toyota turbocharged 3.0-liter 7M-GTE inline-six, as highlighted here by Engine Swap Depot.

Swedish Builder Has Given This Volvo 700 Horses

The Volvo has been built by Johan at his Jalkelid Motorsport garage, located in Orust in Sweden. This engine is much more powerful than the original. The car now produces 700 hp as well as 580 lb-ft of torque to the wheels.  The boost amounts to 27.5 psi. thanks to a Borg Warner 9180 turbocharger that has been paired with a MaxxECU. Oh, and one other little thing, Johan decided to change the car from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive.

So the engine is now mounted longitudinally which, in addition to the massive power increase, necessitated a change of transmission. In came a BMW ZF five-speed manual gearbox that was mated to a Jaguar XJ6 independent rear-end. This allows for all that extra power to be harnessed beautifully.

Johan did not stop there either. The car now rides on BMW E46 adjustable coilovers in the front, but for the rear, he looked to Japan and Toyota again, with modern Toyota GT86 adjustable coilovers.  Overall, that gives this car a thoroughly international DNA with major componentry from Sweden, Germany, the UK, Japan and the US.  Italy and Korea a feeling a bit left out.

700 Horsepower Enables Plenty Of Purposeful Oversteer

As you already suspect, this is a drift build, and a YouTube video  added to this article highlights the car being put through its paces. 700 hp is more than enough to get some good drifting action done. The images of the car show a massive front splitter added to increase its overall downforce and it is finished in a menacing yet also very fetching gloss back livery that really makes the car stand out, especially with its turquoise wheels.
