Genesis is Hyundai’s luxury brand, and they are living up to the idea of “luxury” with the absolutely stunning interior of their X Speedium Coupe electric vehicle (EV). The car showed off its interior styling, based on a compelling Korean concept called “the beauty of white space,” at 2022 Monterey Car Week.

The concept is often found in Korean architecture and involves simplistic design elements and minimalism. Within the Genesis, the idea shines by allowing the more upscale elements to be focal points. Those luxury touches are plentiful, too. The interior is full of high-end materials and design work that makes the Genesis feel comfortable, yet futuristic.

The Genesis X Speedium Coupe is a huge step forward for Hyundai and Genesis in their electrification plans. They have already taken a big bite of the market with some of Hyundai’s most popular EVs (like the Ioniq) and now they clearly have their sites set on taking their next chunk out of the luxury EV market by creating a unique impression.

Let’s take a closer look at the interior of the Genesis X Speedium Coupe EV’s stunning “white space” interior.

Genesis revealed the interior of the Genesis Speedium Coupe EV at the Concours d’Elegance during Monterey Car Week this year at Pebble Beach. The maker first introduced the car as an exterior concept back in April at Genesis House in New York, and the interior reveal has been highly anticipated since then.

The layout of the interior is very driver-focused and includes a curved display that surrounds the driver. The center console and instrument panel both wrap around the main cockpit of the car and work together to create a more immersive driving experience. The organic light-emitting diode technology-based display is visually stunning.

With a nod to its inspiration from other high-performance cars, the display includes a central motor output indicator in the place of the RPM gauge found in an internal combustion engine car. Another display is vertically aligned to the right of the driver and features a touch display, optimized design, a start button, vehicle controls, and multimedia functions.

Although hidden strategically, the audio equipment in the Genesis is well done as well. The all-new architecture includes tweeters, midrange speakers, woofers, and subwoofers that work in tandem to provide an immersive and elite sound experience that is further heightened by the quality of the system, which includes precision-milled aluminum tweeters to enhance acoustics.

The interior is largely leather-based and includes a quilted pattern on the seats and door trim, adding a sense of class to the overall design. Even the steering wheel is woven leather, specifically remnants of leather cut from salvaged and repurposed car seat upholstery. Genesis shows their dedication to environmental friendliness without sacrificing quality by using a breathable grain leather on the upper portion of the seats that uses less water and fewer chemicals to make than traditional leather and threading made from repurposed plastic as well.

The brushed metallic accent pieces used in the cabin add a pop of contrast, as does the two-tone coloring used in the color palette. Through the use of color, Genesis clearly sets apart the driver’s area from the passenger area. Inspired by the Northern coastal areas of California, according to Genesis, the colors of the interior Monterey Gold (reminiscent of the yellow flowers and sands in the area) and Pine Grove Green.

Exterior Design Cues Of The Speedium Coupe EV

The Genesis Speedium Coupe came from a design exercise based on the Genesis X Concept created earlier and, according to the maker, works to personify the design philosophy of the company, “Athletic Elegance.” The concept provides some insight into what the next generation of EVs from the company will likely look like, as well as the process of their design.

On the front end, the Genesis Speedium takes the existing design of the linear headlights and expands on it by stretching them to full length and creating a crest shape that brings to mind the Genesis Crest grille. According to Genesis, this is a symbol that represents their transformation to all-electric, which they hope to accomplish with six models by 2030.

The side view of the car includes a parabolic line that runs from the front to the rear of the car, and the rear design includes an elliptical tail to balance the “anti-wedge” look of the car. Genesis claims that the intention was to create visual tension between the convex and concave surfaces of the car. The “v” shaped brake lights also continue the contrasting design elements.

Overall, the design speaks volumes about the potential future of the company. The beauty of the Genesis X Speedium Coupe EV has upped the ante and the excitement for models to come. The play on color along with the broad areas of empty space and smooth surface area contribute to the stunning design of the interior and pay tribute to the concept of the beauty of white space.
