Daniel of 395jnky just uploaded an exciting video of his J30 Pop-up camper for his Jeep. After eight long months of anticipation, he finally drove to Chula Vista to get his 2016 Jeep Wrangler JKU Rubicon installed with a unit. Ursa Minor Vehicles modifies Jeep hardtops into camper tops that look like a Jeep top but fold into a tent.

The Ursa Minor Supports 40 To 50 Pounds

Jeep owners can order up a camper top that comes color-matched to their Jeep. There are a couple of different options when ordered. You can also get the white top with the black textured main part.

“I decided to go with the painted to match on the top like my old top, and then, of course, the top up here is all painted to match,” Daniel explained.

The camper top is modified to sit on the main Jeep top. There’s a latch that holds the camper tent to prevent it from yanking off when driving down the road. It also comes with side mounts for the awning, and Yakima racks that can be adjusted on the tracks.

Plenty Of Room, And Sits Neatly When Closed

The camper top is quite roomy when open and sits neatly when closed for everyday driving. It’s hardly noticeable that the Jeep has a camper top when closed off.

Daniel reverses the car into the shop, and with a crane, Ursa Minor Vehicle’s technician quickly clutches the camper top on the Jeep.

“So, they just finished the Ursa Minor, doing the install, pretty excited, they are going to pull it out right now, and we’ll give you guys a quick little look before I do the walk around.” He stated.

Once it’s out of the shop with the camper fully installed, Chris, the technician, does a demonstration of the camper top on the Jeep.

“How many pounds would you recommend don’t exceed putting up on the roof?” Daniel asks. “It’ll support like 40 or 50 pounds with it's popped up,” Chris answered.

According to Chris, the camper top bars are rated for 100 pounds per unit. Therefore, when it's closed, you can still load it up. However, he advises not to jump on the roof. The camper top install comes with a power outlet at the corner, a 12-volt, and dual USB with the same setup upfront.

“Anytime you are going up or down with the top, you’ve got to have a door open and one of the hatch panels out of the way. Got to have a path for the airflow.” Chris advised Daniel.

The Ursa Minor Takes Up To 8-months To Be Ready For Delivery

Closing the camper top-up has a learning curve, and Chris does a detailed demonstration of how to do it without damaging the tent.

Later in the video, Daniel goes for his first trip with the Ursa Minor and reviews the camper top and its practicality out in the woods camping.

“So far, we are very pleased with the Ursa Minor despite the fact that the mattress is only two inches thick. It’s very comfortable because it’s like foam and you don’t feel the board underneath it. But it’s only been a couple of nights now, tonight will be night number three, so we’ll see how we do long-term,” Daniel commented.

The Ursa Minor is impressive, and Daniel seems to love it so far. He, however, advises to order it early if interested since it takes up to eight months to get ready for pickup.
