The Tata Avinya is arguably one of the coolest concept cars to come out of India in years. Imagine this, the world needs saving, and it is the future. The hero needs to get to the spot of trouble in time, or else. There’s an army of robots (since it is the future) ready to be obstacles in the way but the fancy car that the hero is driving slices through traffic and reaches the destination. Just in time, of course. Now, imagine the hero is driving the 2022 Electric Car concept Avinya and is jumping out through the suicide doors right into the action. That is the kind of car Indian automaker Tata Motors has designed, and we think it looks fantastic, just like the Tata Sierra Concept. Once it becomes a reality in 2025, the production version of this car will compete against the likes of the Tesla Model 3 and the Ford Mustang Mach-E. But for now, let’s focus on the concept.

Tata Avinya: An SUV, hatchback, And MPV

The Avinya follows a modular design language that combines the best of all worlds by bringing together the hatchback stance with a silhouette of an MPV while offering space similar to a luxury sedan or an SUV. The front LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) have a shape which look like the letter “T”, just like the logo of Tata Motors. However, Tata Motors has not yet confirmed if this will be the new logo. Nevertheless, it looks pretty and makes the car look wide. The same T-shaped design is followed by the sleek tail lights as well, and they carry iacross the width of the car's rear end, making it look like a spoiler – a neat design touch.

There are no exhaust tips as this is an electric car. Instead, it gets a healthy dose of gloss black treatment on the rear bumper and takes this dual-tone theme all around the car. Keeping things neat are winglet-styled rearview mirrors. These house cameras which show the rearview to the driver through a screen inside the car.

Tata Avinya Smells Good From the Inside!

You read that right. Tata Motors says that while modern car designs go after looking and perhaps sounding good, with the Avinya, they also want to smell good. And they do that by releasing fragrances into the cabin through a nozzle mounted on the center armrest that they claim will help relax its occupants.

Once you open the ‘Butterfly’ doors, as called so by Tata Motors, the seat will rotate outward for easier entry and exit. The cabin uses sustainable materials, and the seats have speakers near your neck for a better audio experience. Speaking of audio, Tata Motors wants everything to be voice-activated and believes that people would wish for less screen time by 2025. Hence, there is no infotainment system screen in the middle of the dashboard, or anywhere else, for that matter. Take that Tesla!

Let’s talk about the serious stuff. Tata Motors has debuted its GEN 3 platform with Avinya. Their current range of electric cars sold in India are conversion models. They are an electric-only variant of a combustion engine-powered model. Recently, Tata Motors showcased the Tata Curvv Concept before Avinya, which has the GEN 2 platform and will launch by 2024. The GEN 2 platform optimizes the Gen 1 platform for a more efficient electric drivetrain package.

The GEN 3 platform on which Avinya is built, was designed to be an electric car since day one. Tata Motors says that the car will have over 310 miles of range per charge. One can charge the battery using a fast charger in under half an hour, claims Tata Motors.

There are no confirmed drivetrain details as of now. Tata Motors says that the car can be made into both the single-motor layout and the double-motor layout. Also, Avinya’s production model will have waterproofing and dust protection, and will have advanced driver assistance systems as well.

While there are no details regarding the performance numbers that Tata Motors is aiming for with the production version of the Avinya, things sure do look exciting. Tata Motors, the parent company of Jaguar Land Rover, has indeed, created a great-looking concept and seems to be headed in the right direction. It will be interesting to see what Tata Motors comes out with as the production version of Avinya concept in 2025, putting India on the global EV map, as they take the fight to Tesla and Ford in the global market.
