A small number of Tesla owners are making a big stink about their advanced luxury cars not being particularly watertight. The owners claim that when they take their cars through puddles or car washes that water will pool up inside their cars. This follows a series of build quality issues that have plagued the start up manufacturer as they've expanded into a full line of vehicles with the Model 3 and soon to be released Model Y. As is the custom these days, most of the complaints have been made over the social media service Twitter.

Washed, Inside and Out

Twitter user Caleb took a video of water leaking out from underneath the dashboard while taking his Model 3 through a car wash. The tweet also explains that the Tesla service center has neither the newly upgraded part or the original part that would fix the leak on his car.

No Puddle Jumping

Another video, this time on YouTube, shows a Model X taking on water after driving through a puddle. When the SUV hits the puddle the water seems to come up through the windshield. There have also been issues with the seals on the rear drive unit. An owner in China has complained about Tesla not fixing his warrantied car and even Car and Driver's long term Tesla had to have that part replaced.

While there hasn't been any direct communication from Tesla on the subject of the water leaks, during the complaints, Elon Musk tweeted "[a] Tesla works as a boat for short periods of time, as an electric car has no air intake or exhaust to block and battery/motor/electronics are water-sealed. Submarines are just underwater EVs." Other users have posted videos of Teslas doing deep water testing.
