Alfa Romeo has been a prominent name in motorsports. In fact, this Italian automaker was present throughout most of the iconic motorsport moments in history. Now, Alfa Romeo is returning back to its roots of motor sporting with the revival of its "GTA" badging. It shakes up 110 years of its existence as the Giulia GTA is a very special car. It has been inspired by the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA of 1965 that was developed by Autodelta and based on the Giulia Sprint GT. The GTA was quite a famous sports car as it bundled upon win upon win, in various racing events.

The 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA is based on the already ludicrous Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. It just dials everything further and gives you the purest driving pleasure, which essentially what Alfa Romeos have always been known for. Alfa Romeo has also pitched in a more hardcore version called the GTAm. The bummer here is that the elusive duo of Alfa Romeos are available in a total of 500 units and might have also been sold out when you finish reading this.

What Is The Buzz About "GTA"?

Alfa Romeo is 110 years old. This Italian automaker has been through thick and thin. But for all these years, they stuck to that one aspect of making beautiful and soulful cars. They put forth driving dynamics and performance at the forefront in making some of the most elusive driver's cars over the years. Now, in this age and time, when cars are becoming more and more predictable and "soulless", Alfa Romeo is back to tickle back the child in us with the 2021 Giulia GTA and GTAm.

The GTA nameplate can be traced back to the 60s and stands for "Gran Turismo Alleggerita" which is the Italian for Grand Touring Lightened (everything sure sounds very dramatic in Italian!). The original GTA was based on the 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulia and was made for the track. It garnered a lot of attention, because of the recurring wins it kept on clubbing in. This is how the GTA nameplate became iconic and this revival will carry a hell-lot of weight, to provide for the perfect go-to track car, just like the original GTA.

Alfa Romeo has used the same 2.9L Ferrari-derived Bi-Turbo V6 from the already bonkers Giulia Quadrifoglio. But it has been tuned here to provide more performance and puts down 540 hp, which is 35 horses more than the Quadrifoglio. The buzz is only about the GTA, but Alfa Romeo has pitched in another, more aggressive GTAm in which the "m" stands for "modificata".

It basically gets the same powertrain layout and other mechanical components but adds even more aggressive design cues with a redesigned front splitter and one of the coolest looking rear spoiler. The curb weight has also been shaved off and now stands at 3351 lbs, 200 lbs. lighter than the Quadrifoglio.

The 2021 Giulia GTA Does 0-60 Mph In 3.6 Seconds And Sounds Glorious

The 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA goes from 0-60 mph in an impressive 3.6 seconds that is again 0.2 seconds quicker than the already mad Quadrifoglio. It sounds glorious while doing so as both the GTA and GTAm get a precision-made Titanium Akrapovic exhaust system for the perfect symphony. Both the GTA and GTAm has been scrutinized on an aggressive diet to make it as nimble and insane as possible.

This has given it an impressive power to weight ratio of 6.21 (2.82 kg)/ hp. This has been made possible with various carbon fiber components for the bonnet, roof, front bumper, front and rear wheel arches. It doesn't stop there, as even the mechanical components including the driveshaft, engine elements, doors, and suspension system have carbon fiber components to shave every ounce possible.

The most evident aggression is from the body kit that has been tweaked extensively for the GTA and even more so for the GTAm. It's not just for show, as the aerodynamic upgrades done on the duo, has been by the hands of their Formula one partner -Sauber Engineering. Every shift in shape and design of the exterior elements have been meticulously done to make these cars as nimble as possible.

The use of extensive carbon fiber is also in line with the aggressive aero that it gets. The diffusers at front and rear, active front splitter, and those beautiful looking spoilers have been tuned to increase downforce. The team also increased the track width by 1.96 inches, for more grounded dynamics. The 20-inch center-lock wheels remind you yet again of the track-spec nature of these Alfa Romeos.

Interior Has Been Tweaked To Be A Go-To Track Car

We would say that this is by far, the coolest looking interior setup for a sports sedan. The upgrades done are solely for function but they didn't leave it just for that, as the Italian has managed to make a race-ready cabin layout with roll cages and a 6-point racing harness look beautiful.

There is carbon fiber everywhere and its Alcantara sports seats go well with the red and black theme it follows. The GTAm gets more hardcore treatment by throwing out the second-row seats for racing eleme4ts like helmets and fire extinguishers.

Only 500 of these will be made and the lucky ones to get this mad machine will also get a Bell helmet in special GTA livery, a racing suit, gloves, and shoes by Alpinestars, a custom car cover, and an invitation to a driver training course.
