BMW leveled up the dynamic prowess of the M5 high-performance sedan by introducing the M5 Competition in 2018. Nearly three years after, the M5 receives a new variant that is  better than the potent and quick M5 Competition. This is the new 2022 BMW M5 CS and no Bimmer can stand up to it in terms of power and quickness.

The new M5 CS is a special version of the high-performance M5, with production limited for a single model year (2022). Its major distinguishing element is its S63 4.4-liter M TwinPower turbo V8 mill tuned to offer 627 hp at 6,000 rpm. While its peak torque is still at 553 lb-ft, it's now available at a wider band (1,800-5,950 rpm).

Along with the 8-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission (with Drivelogic) and the M xDrive all-wheel drive system, the potent V8 allows the M5 CS to zoom from zero to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds (M5 Competition: 3.1 seconds). Equipped standard with the M Driver’s Package, the M5 CS can go as fast as 190 mph.

Extensive Use Of Carbon Fiber On The Exterior

Another reason why the M5 CS is a better performer than the M5 Competition is its lighter weight (by 230 lbs). This is partly made possible by extensive use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic on the roof, hood, front splitter, rear diffuser and rear spoiler. BMW also trimmed the weight of the M5 CS by reducing its soundproofing and the use of M Carbon ceramic brakes.

Its exterior is wrapped in Brands Hatch grey metallic paint as standard, although it can be finished in either Frozen Brands Hatch grey metallic and Frozen Deep Green metallic. Its BMW kidney grille surround, model badging, and 20-inch Gold Bronze 20-inch M forged Y-spoke wheels feature a special Gold Bronze finish. Interestingly, the M5 CS features yellow Adaptive LED headlights.

Inside, the M5 CS features seats in black Merino leather with red accents and stitching. Front occupants are treated to heated and electrically adjustable M carbon bucket seats while rear passengers are accommodated on individual bucket seats. All headrests are imprinted with a map of the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

Further interior features include M Alcantara steering, Alcantara headliner, black merino leather center console cover, velour M floor mats as well as various exclusive badges. The new M5 CS will arrive in the US in the second half of 2021 with an MSRP of $142,000 (plus $995 destination).
