Ford stirred up quite the commotion with the launch of a 'Mustang' that wasn't a sports car nor had a V8. But despite the backlash, the Ford Mustang Mach-E has managed to have quite the progressive upgrade over the last 2 years. And now, with 2022 MY, it is finally starting to fill in the boxes. The major update for the 2022 Mustang Mach-E is the bump in battery capacity, which will result in improved range figures.

The 2021 Mustang Mach-E was well-stacked on technology and comfort but was behind in terms of practical usage as compared to the Tesla Model X. Youtuber Marques Brownlee pitted the Mach-E with the Tesla Model S Plaid in a 1000 miles road trip, along with an old-school gas-powered Audi Q5. The range gap was shockingly huge between the EVs (enough to cause range anxiety), and the charging infrastructure for Ford was not something to be proud of as well.

Agreeably, Ford is new to this platform, and niggles are expected, which is why the 2022 Mustang Mach-E is a preview towards more good things to come. The improved driving range is yet to be stated officially and doesn't expect an astonishing jump, but an increase is also a good move. This Ford will finally inch closer to facing the likes of the 2022 Audi e-tron and Volvo XC40 Recharge as well.

Performance and design language remain unchanged for the 2022 Mustang Mach-E. The major update for 2022MY comes in the form of bigger batteries and more range. This is a crucial update since the last MY has been undercut by the rivals quite badly in terms of driving range. The bump is minor, but an improvement over last year.

Other than that the other major change comes in the form of the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E Ice White Edition which is an all-white optional appearance package. This is a throwback to the 1993 Triple White Fox-body feature of the Mustang which is sure to end up being a future classic. It is in 28 years that Ford has offered a white-on-white Mustang.

While the battery capacity has gone up, Ford has not bumped up the performance figures of the 2022 Mustang Mach-E. The base trims continue to make in the range of 266 - 317 HP and 346 - 428 lb-ft of torque. For under $50,000 without incentives, this is an impressive performance.

But things get serious for the pumped-up GT and GT Performance trims that pump out 480 HP and a whooping 634 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels. The GT line-up can do 0-60 MPH in under 4 seconds. Performance is sorted for Mach-E.

The Mustang Mach-E has bumped up on its battery size for 2022. The Standard Range now has a 70 kWh battery pack (opposed to last year's 68 kWh), and the Extended Range now has a 91 kWh pack (opposed to 88 kWh from last year). While the official driving range figures are yet to be published, a member of the Mach-E forum calculated what could be the speculated EPA figures.

Standard Range ones saw a bump from 230 miles to 237 miles in RWD guise, and 211 miles to 217 miles for the AWD models. As for the Extended range models - RWD ones could rise from 300 miles to 310 miles, and AWD ones raise from 270 miles to 279 miles. Finally, the California Route 1 RWD could see a rise from 305 miles to 315 miles.

If speculated figures are taken into account then the most efficient 2022 Mustang Mach-E model will have a driving range of 315 miles. The bump is mild but the electric stang inches close to being a threat to the competition. The Audi e-tron is far off from even competing here as it has a maximum driving range of just 212 miles.

The 2022 Jaguar I-Pace gets a commendable jump and the driving range now stands at 292 miles as per the WTLP cycle. Volvo XC50 Recharge also stays in the lower bandwidth with a maximum driving range of just 208 miles, making it the least efficient here. But Tesla still holds the podium with the Model X that has an impressive range of 360 miles for the standard offering. Ford has a lot of catching up to do.
