Genesis, the luxury brand of the Hyundai Motor Group, has finally revealed the interior and more details of its updated flagship sedan. The second-generation Genesis G90 was revealed in late November 2021, albeit exterior only. The automaker has now revealed further details, complemented by images of its interior. The cabin of the brand new G90 looks exquisite and thoroughly modern. It also packs some interesting materials and features that help eliminate bacteria. Furthermore, the G90 in its second generation will be available in two options - standard and long-wheelbase (LWB).

The interior of the 2023 G90 is a large step up from the model it replaces. Genesis brings trendy, tech-laden, but minimalist, style to the interior. The design of the dash is simple, elegant, and everything you expect from a modern luxury car. It doesn’t match the same level of opulence found in a Mercedes S-Class, or a Rolls-Royce. But it can proudly stand its ground in front of the current BMW 7 Series.

The driver is presented with a two-prong, extraordinary design steering wheel. It features the central piece for the horn in the middle on an indented panel. The buttons and switches on the steering wheel are placed on overlapping panels on either side, with a floating illusion.

Like most modern cars, the driver’s all-digital gauge cluster, as well as the main touchscreen infotainment system, is integrated on a seamless upright glass panel on the top of the dash. Under the touchscreen panel are the central air vents, elegantly hidden away from obvious sight.

Below is a panel of switches and touch-sensitive buttons for the climate control, and other functions for the infotainment system. The simplified design of the center console is contrasted by a dial with a crystal-like top that works as the gear lever. It is surrounded by buttons reserved for various in-vehicle functions.

If you’re looking for a vehicle of this nature, chances are you are more likely to find yourself in the rear seats. The rear is where most of the magic happens in the G90.

All the seats in the G90 are what they are calling “ergo-relaxing" seats. They have 10 air cells that are designed to provide four different kinds of massages. The rear seats recline and the 10.2-inch rear touchscreens on the back of the front seats change angles accordingly.

The four-seat model includes a center armrest in the middle that houses an 8-inch screen to allow rear passengers to operate the lighting, curtain position, and climate settings. This screen is kept inside an Ultra Violet light-sterilized armrest box. Additionally, the cabin has an antibacterial Silver Zinc Zeolite coating to mitigate bacteria and microorganisms growing on the artificial leather.

That's all well and great. But the G90 needs to sway buyers away from Lexus, the Mercedes S-Class, and Audi A8 customers. So like them, the G90 is the first Genesis model to feature an in-built air purifier and a fragrance diffuser with three scents with interesting names — The Great Outdoors, My Favorite Place, and The Driver's Awakening.

Genesis has also thrown in what is called “Mood Curator” that changes vehicle settings. Using the 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, mood lighting, massage seats, fragrance, and electric curtains, the G90 attempts to create an environment to help in “lifting passengers’ moods.”

Not only does the G90 feature a heap tonne of sound-deadening materials and active noise cancellation to quieten down the cabin. Warning alarms are only piped through the headrest of the driver to not disturb rear-seat passengers.

For the new-generation flagship, Genesis has decided to drop the gas-guzzling 5.0-liter, V8 engine as well as the naturally aspirated V6. The only engine available would be a 3.5-liter, twin-turbo V6 packing 380hp, and 390 lb-ft of torque. The transmission choice is limited to an 8-speed automatic. However, the long-wheelbase model adds a 48-volt mild hybrid system with an e-S/C electric supercharger that uses compressed air to mitigate turbo lag. All-wheel-drive is also standard for the LWB model.

Even though the G90 is 215.2 inches long, the all-wheel-steering system will help make the G90 easier to drive. Furthermore, Genesis has equipped it with over-the-air update support, a digital key, a head-up display, autonomous driving tech, and a lot more.

The second-generation Genesis G90 will initially go on sale in its home market of South Korea. The brand will then roll it out to other markets like North America. Expect the Korean luxury barge to arrive in the US sometime in late 2022.
