In his five years as a YouTuber, Tyler Hoover has had a huge amount of broken cars roll through his garage. He documents his escapades with these machines on his channel, Hoovie's Garage. Hoover's specialty is buying the cheapest and most broken examples of luxury cars and fixing them with the help of his mechanics. So, although it might look like most of these cars are far from hoopties, that's exactly what Tyler calls them.

It's generally a well-deserved title as Hoover has had to deal with pretty much every type of maintenance problem that could possibly go wrong. From mechanically totaled limousines to junkyard-worthy supercars, there isn't much that he won't attempt to give a second life. Let's take a look at the coolest machines he's bought and showed off on the channel.

This S Class starred in Hoover's first viral video, and still holds the highest view count of any on his channel to date. He bought the car for just $4,500, but it had a number of engine faults. With a V12 Mercedes, those engine faults were not cheap to fix.

After fixing the motor, Hoover found all manner of other issues with the car, with everything from the radiator to the windshield needing replacement. He ended up spending around $14,500, which is more than the car was worth. Still, it got Tyler his first big video and arguably helped kick-start his channel into what it is today.

Who doesn't love a Lambo? Tyler certainly does, which lead to him buying this Murcielago Roadster off fellow YouTuber Ed Bolian, of VinWiki fame. He paid just under $100,000 for the car, which seems on the face of it like a good deal as most examples sell for around $150,000.

However, the Lambo threw up problem after problem and the channel's resident mechanic Car Wizard quoted an initial estimate of $18,000 to get it fixed up. Despite the huge cost, Hoover did fix up the car, documenting the whole process on his channel and draining his wallet even further in the process.

6 Rolls-Royce Phantom

The Rolls-Royce Phantom is the pinnacle of luxury motoring, with a sky-high price tag when new. Hoover's car was of course the cheapest example he could find, and as a result, it needed a fair amount of work. Bought for $80,000, Tyler later sold the Rolls for around $70,000.

Given that extensive repairs needed to be carried out to get the car fully functional on top of the purchase price, it meant he lost a total of around $26,000 during his ownership. That's a huge chunk of money but far less than the $455,000 it would cost to buy a new Phantom today.

5 Alpina B7

Alpina are a coachbuilder specializing in BMWs, taking the German manufacturer's top models and improving almost every aspect of the car. They're also hand-built, which makes parts rare and expensive. That's okay if the car has been well maintained, but Hoovie's example was very much a hooptie.

The list of things that needed fixing on the car included everything from rebuilding the supercharger to new tires and fixing cabin leaks. There ended up being so much wrong with it that Tyler sent the car to the junkyard, as he simply couldn't justify the extortionate cost of fixing it.

4 Aston Martin Rapide

It's far from the most loved of Aston Martin models, but the Rapide ticks all the right performance car boxes and can be found cheap too. Hoovie picked his up for just $44,000, a steal considering the car cost over $200,000 when it was new.

The car was a departure from his usual purchases, proving itself to be very reliable for months after he bought it. In fact, it was so reliable he even made a video about the fact it wasn't costing him enough of a fortune to run! He ended up selling it and replacing it with more broken cars. Talk about a glutton for punishment.

This Ferrari 348 had close to 100,000 miles on it when it became part of Hoovie's Garage. The previous owner had used some DIY fixes to keep the car functional, which greatly reduced the car's value. It meant that, of course, this example was the cheapest on the market.

Tyler recently made a video explaining how much he loves the car, stating it was one of the cars he drove the most. This was largely because it was already dinged and scratched, so he wasn't bothered about it picking up a few more imperfections. He also loved how it felt to drive, with its V8 engine making an epic soundtrack for road trips.

2 Lamborghini Countach

It may be the best worst supercar of all time, given that everyone loves it even though it's objectively terrible to drive and own. Hoovie's Countach of course had some problems, although most of them could be fixed surprisingly easily.

A loose washer inside the shifter was easily fixed by resident mechanic Car Wizard, and a broken wire in the engine bay didn't seem to affect the running of the car. Strangely, a set of skateboard wheels had been fitted to the front bumper of the Countach, presumably to stop it catching on potholes and bumps.

1 Maybach 57

The Maybach 57 Hoovie bought came with one major problem: the huge slice down the left-hand side of the car. Tyler never found out exactly what it was that caused the damage, although it's speculated it may have been hit by a fork lift truck.

Repair work on the Maybach is still ongoing, and it's unclear whether Tyler will sell the car or keep it long-term when it's fixed. Either way, it's a pretty incredible car that represented the absolute best Mercedes had to offer when it was built. It's also one of only two standalone Maybach cars released in modern times, which makes it even cooler.
