Digital car renderer Abimelec Arellano is one of the best in the business when it comes to radical renderings. His latest piece of work is certainly something that will raise some eyebrows. He has taken the classic Chevrolet Corvette C1 and its stunning body, and taken it off the chassis of the Corvette, and placed it onto the underpinnings of the Pontiac Solstice. This could be a controversial rendering!

Why The Pontiac Solstice

Arellano has argued that whilst the Corvette C1 is a gorgeous car, it doesn’t have the best underpinnings. And he is probably right there. He then goes on to mention on his Instagram post that the C1 style has been the subject of plenty of retro body kits, including for the Corvette C5. He doesn’t think the old body works great on these modern Corvette’s thanks to their proportions. This is why he chose the Pontiac Solstice as the underpinnings for his C1 retro-render. Arellano states that the wheelbase of the two cars is pretty similar, so that meant the C1 body just slots into place nicely over the Solstice chassis.

Arellano’s render features a standard Corvette C1 as well so we can test his theory. He claims that the rear overhang is shorter, the dash-to-axle ratio is also shorter, and that the main proportions of the car remain intact. Looking at the two cars in his rendering, he has a point. The overhang is not dramatic in the slightest and whilst it at first looks odd, it does look like the C1 was almost made to fit onto this Pontiac underpinning. Externally, the biggest differences are how the C1 now sits on the ground, the modern interior and roll-hoop, and the wheels, while still retro, are a bit different too.

The Specs Of The Corvette Solstice

Arellano has talked about the specs of this new hybrid Pontiac-Corvette. Under the hood of this creation is the Solstice’s 260 hp Turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a manual transmission. This will certainly provide a bit more power and fun than the straight-six that you would find in the original Corvette C1. He poses the question as to whether we would do this to a Solstice, and that he might consider an LS swap for the car! Either way, the C1 Corvette does seem to work quite well as a Pontiac Solstice.
