Ferrari dropped another Special Edition model based on its flagship supercar recently. The Ferrari Daytona SP3 shares its underpinnings with the 812 Competizione. But in true Ferrari fashion, it is even more special. As a new addition to the Icona Series models, the Daytona SP3 pays homage to the Italian marquee's history.

The SP3 is inspired by Ferrari's Sport Prototipo era of the 1960s and 1970s. Specifically, the time when Ferrari took a choreographed 1-2-3 finish at the 1967 Daytona 24 Hours in retaliation for their prior year's loss to Ford and the GT40 at LeMans. As a result, we in the modern day are presented with one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever.

At first glance, the new Ferrari Daytona SP3 will definitely take your breath away. The supercar is clearly influenced by Ferrari's 1960s racing prototypes. The curving windshield, strong wheel arches, and the natural flow of the style all serve as a nod to Ferrari's historic models.

The headlamps are a modern spin on vintage pop-up headlights. They have the same slimline LED path as other current Ferraris, but with retractable eyelids. A pair of functional air vents are located on the hood. The rear diffuser has a unique design and is the car's most daring feature. The horizontal blades of the carbon fiber rear end go parallel to the small LED taillight that is placed below the rear wing. The exhaust outlets are elevated above the diffuser. The airbox that distributes air to the side-mounted radiators to assist cool the more powerful V12 engine is integrated into the butterfly opening doors.

The Daytona SP3 is the most aerodynamic Ferrari ever made and is constructed using unusual methods. The Daytona SP3 is built around a brand-new carbon monocoque to which the carbon fiber body panels are bolted. The Daytona SP3 has a dry weight of 3,275 pounds, according to Ferrari.

While the Daytona SP3 is beautiful to look at, it also has extremely efficient aerodynamic capabilities. The styling incorporates the most aggressive aerodynamics package ever applied to a Ferrari road car. It accomplishes so, however, without any obtrusive wing at the back. Instead, Ferrari is using the ground-effect principle with the Daytona SP3 to help provide positive downforce. The SP3 does not depend solely on its wings on top of the car's body to generate downforce, the Daytona's precisely tuned underbody ducting provides a vacuum-like effect that pulls the vehicle into the ground. This in return allows for a more efficient way to allow the car to corner better while also managing some incredible top speeds.

They say that when you buy a Ferrari, you pay for the engine, the rest of the car is free. It is because Ferrari is known as one of the greatest builders of emotive motors. The Daytona SP3 would not be complete without one.

The new Daytona SP3 had to live up to the prestige. The 6.5-liter V12 from the 812 Competizione is thus used in the mid-engined hypercar. However, it produces more power, rated at 830 horsepower (10 hp more) at 9,500rpm. The 7-speed twin-clutch transmission sends power to the rear wheels.

Redesigned pistons, titanium con-rods, and DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) piston pins assist in minimizing friction inside the engine. The camshafts have also been rebalanced and lightened. The newly designed valve springs have been installed to give the throttle response of a superbike.

All of this adds up to some mind-boggling performance numbers. The Daytona SP3 is said to have a top speed of nearly 211 mph, according to Ferrari. It would take 2.85 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph, and 7.4 seconds to reach 124 mph. Yes, the Daytona SP3 is another limited-edition Ferrari, but it takes fast to new heights.

Ferrari has designed the inside to be as near to a race car as possible while still being comfortable enough to drive on the road. The steering wheel and pedals move into place for the driver, while the fixed bucket seats are carved into the tub chassis. With the digital dash gauge cluster, the driver gets a redesigned steering wheel and a distraction-free dash. The roof can also be removed if you want to hear the V12 engine roar more loudly.

The Daytona SP3 is part of Ferrari's Icona Series, alongside the Monza SP1 and SP2 Speedsters. Ferrari says the Daytona SP3 will be limited to 599 units and is expected to fetch a seven-figure sum. Like most special edition models, it will be sold to Ferrari's exclusive customer base by invite-only. However, all examples have already been spoken for. From the way the Daytona SP3 looks, you cannot blame them, either. It is quite easily the most beautiful supercar in 2022.
