General Motors got a little bit lucky timing the release of the C8 Corvette, following delays due to worker strikes, as fears of a global coronavirus pandemic have led to a plethora of online videos showing happy new owners social distancing behind the wheel of their new toys. But the automotive industry slowdown also means that higher-spec C8 variants are now on hold indefinitely, so C8 owners also have to cope with the fact that even the Z06 of the C6 generation is probably a more hardcore sports car. As the world awaits an aftermarket twin-turbo C8, meanwhile, the crew at Hoonigan has just released a video featuring a gnarly twin-turbocharged C6 Corvette time attack car with a hilarious backstory as part of the AutoFocus series on YouTube.

Turn Up The Volume

The funny story of this car goes back to a Garrett turbocharger that was apparently up for grabs at the Super Lap Battle event at Buttonwillow Raceway in California. When the owner of this C6 decided to get in on the contest, he decided that if he won, the turbo would go right into the same Corvette.

Of course, after the victory, modding up a C6 Corvette with a single turbocharger clearly wasn't going to be enough, so owner Feras Qartoumy decided to create a twin-turbocharged monster complete with a sequential gearbox. On the exterior, all the track-specific goodies like a massive wing, side skirts, front spoiler, and enormous rear diffuser should help the powerplant's claimed 875 horsepower not overwhelm traction during hard acceleration out of corners.

Right behind a duo of exhaust tips visible directly behind this C6's driver's side front wheel, the larger turbo from the contest is also visible, as is a smaller unit. Check out the video clip for the absurd sounds the setup makes during some fun with the Hoonigan crew.
