The Lamborghini Aventador. One of the greatest supercars to come from the Raging Bull, and a supercar that, even in 2022, still looks like it is from the future. Powered by a mighty V12 engine that powers the car from 0-60 in just 2.9 seconds, the Aventador may weigh in at 4,630 lbs, but it certainly isn’t hindered by that weight. On top of this, it's also become a bit of a sidekick in hundreds of music videos from the likes of Drake, Nicki Minaj and Rick Ross. Maybe it’s the scissor doors that add so much appeal.
Here at HotCars, we have been lucky enough to get a closer look at this Pino Verde 2014 Aventador for our latest Car Stories, and we must give a big thanks to Dream Rentals for allowing this to happen. This $320,000 supercar is a thing of wonder, and its protective layer of paint means that this particular supercar, unlike many others, has been out and about in the real world. Let's take a closer look at this absolutely insane supercar, that still commands your attention in 2022.
The Body And Aerodynamics
The fighter jet inspired body certainly set the world alight when it was revealed at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show. Back then, the idea of a carbon fiber monocoque chassis was just that, an idea. That was until the Aventador came out. Given how heavy the car is, carbon fiber was certainly needed to keep that weight down. But it's perhaps in the aerodynamics department where the Aventador really shines. It's an incredible thing to look at, but looking at it from the front, well it might remind you a bit of a Halloween pumpkin that’s been carved out.
The air vents below the engine also remind us of Batman from The Dark Knight. Perhaps that’s quite fitting that Bruce Wayne did indeed drive a Lamborghini in that film. Underneath the headlights of the Aventador are the S ducts, and they are a thing of wonder, taking air through the bottom of the car and ultimately out the top of the hood to help with downforce. And those S ducts certainly look crazy. And if you like crazy, you will love the four exhaust pipes combined into one at the back, super pipe, in a hexagonal enclosure. In fact, that hexagonal theme seems to be across a lot of this car, including the wing mirrors.
More Crazy Across The Aventador
The theme of crazy is seen all across this car. From the enormous wheels, to the F1-inspired push rod actuated shocks and the ridiculous carbon ceramic brakes that are, if we are honest, extra large pizza sized. And if you want to take this car anywhere that isn’t a track, well you might need to raise the suspension. A ride height of 125 mm probably won’t get you over much more than a magazine or a sheet of paper. And as you might expect from the Aventador, it is quite aviation, fighter jet inspired on the inside when it comes to the switches and levers.
We have the switches for the lights under the steering wheel, the switches on the center console for the windows, and the lift for raising the suspension, ESC, and the parking sensors. All of which look like they belong on a fighter jet. There is Audi influence across the board too, with the German brand's ownership of the company meaning electronics are vastly improved from before the late 1990s. Those switches and buttons are all easily accessible and clearly labeled. Those seats are a hybrid of Alcantara and leather, and in general, the interior is quite a cool place to be. But the best part of the car is what lies under the hood. Or the trunk, as it's rear-engined.
The Lamborghini Engine
That 700 hp V12 engine is the first of the new generation of V12s to come out of the Lamborghini workshop in 50 years. It helps to elevate the Aventador above the Ferrari 458, and the best bit of all is that the engine is in full view from its rear cover, so you can witness that mighty Lamborghini magic. Technically, this Aventador is an LP 700-4, which means this car is all-wheel drive. All of that torque is nicely split between all four wheels, and all the power is handled via a single-clutch automated manual transmission.
A Spanish Fighting Bull And Our Final Thoughts
Like most Lamborghini’s, the Aventador is named after a Spanish fighting bull, the Aventador bull actually fighting in Zaragoza, Aragon, in 1993. If we are to sum up this car, though, what would we say? Well, you can’t exactly take a bad picture of this car. Hence, its massive music video appeal. Maybe it's those scissor doors that want us all to strike a pose next to this glorious car. There is just something about this car, even with all the other cars Lamborghini have built since its inception, that screams out as one of the best supercars that most of us will never be able to afford.
