The Lamborghini Huracan Performante is the upgraded version of the Lamborghini Huracan. The Huracan Performante was first unveiled in 2017 at the Geneva motor show. It is the most complete supercar the Italian car manufacturer has produced in a very long time, sorry Aventador fans.

Lamborghini has been synonymous with aggressive-looking supercars that seem like they would charge you down if you looked at them the wrong way, and the Huracan Performante is no different. It is an apex predator on the prowl, aiming to reclaim its former glory.

The raging Italian bull has had to play second fiddle, watching as its rivals left it in the dust. Lamborghini was once at the top of the supercar industry producing era-defining cars such as the Countach, Diablo, and Miura, but recently it has been reduced to being nothing more than a spectator.

No one, not even the most die-hard Lamborghini fans would have dared to take any of its recent models to the track. The raging bull was tamed, it became dare I say, a regular car. The Lamborghini Huracan Performante has changed all of that. Lamborghini has let the beast out of its cage and grabbed it by the horns.

What sets it apart

One of its most distinctive features is no doubt its name, "Lamborghini Huracan Performante". Huracan is Spanish for the hurricane and Performante is Italian for performance. The car was inspired by a famous Spanish fighting bull, keeping with tradition, Lamborghini has often named its cars after Spanish fighting bulls. The Huracan was a bull known for its courage.

Advanced aerodynamics

The most impressive feature of the new Huracan Performante is the new aerodynamic system. Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attica or ALA is a new aerodynamic system developed and patented by Lamborghini.

How it works

The flaps on the front active spoiler close to generating maximum downforce which allows you corner at high speeds, when the onboard computer deems it fit, a motor opens the flaps in less than half a second, reducing air pressure on the spoiler which minimizes drag and allows the car to accelerate to high speeds. The spoiler works like an upside-down plane wing.

More flaps on the rear active spoiler direct air under the wing, maximizing downforce and cutting drag to allow the car to charge through corners and straightaways at high speeds.

The Lamborghini Huracan Performante can also split its downforce in the middle of a turn, this increases traction and allows the car to corner at high speeds with less steering angle, Lamborghini calls this aero vectoring.

Huracan Performante's Cutting Edge Design

via lamborghini.com

According to Lamborghini's Head of Design, Mitja Borkert, Lamborghini has three design values, pure, cutting edge, and visionary. The Lamborghini Huracan Performante embodies all of these values.

The Huracan Performante is 40 kg lighter than the standard Lamborghini Huracan. This is because the body of the Performante is made from aluminum combined with Lamborghini's own forged composite. The material allows for more complex forms compared to regular carbon fiber. The front spoiler, rear spoiler, engine cover, and lower diffuser are all made from this material.

Under The Hood

via newcarcars.com

The Lamborghini Huracan Performante is just as menacing on the inside as it is on the outside. It has a 5.2-liter V10 engine that kicks out 631 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque, it also has a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Put that together and you have a raging bull that has a top speed of 202 mph and can go from 0-60 mph in just 2.9 seconds.

It will bring you to tears, no seriously. Driving the Lamborghini Huracan Performante is an emotional experience. The Huracan once held the record for the fastest production car to ever go around the legendary Nurburgring, it did it in a time of 6 minutes 52 seconds.

Performance

The Huracan Performante has the same naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine used in a standard model Huracan, unlike the one in the Huracan, the engine on the Performante produces 30 more horsepower. It is also the most powerful 10-cylinder unit in the company's history.

How it compares to the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ

Before Lamborghini unveiled the Aventador SVJ in 2018, the Huracan Performante was the fastest car on the Lamborghini roster. It also held the record for the fastest production car to go around the Nurburgring, but the SVJ beat that record too, but how do the two supercars compare...

The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ has a massive 6.5-liter V12 engine that produces 759 horsepower and 531 lb-ft of torque, in comparison to the Lamborghini Huracan Performante's 5.2-liter V10 engine produces 631 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. The SVJ is faster too, it has a top speed of 217 mph compared to the Performante's 202 mph. Here's where it gets a little interesting, the SVJ goes from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds while the Performante does it in 2.9 seconds, the Performante is also faster in a quarter-mile.

The Huracan Performante is much cheaper than the Aventador SVJ, the Performante costs $217,290 while the SVJ costs $517,770. Looking purely at value for money, the Performante gives you a lot more supercar for your buck compared to the Aventador SVJ.
