In 1963, Ferruccio Lamborghini decided to launch an automotive company solely for the production of high-end sports cars. At the time, the company was named Automobili Lamborghini, and its production factory was based in Sant'Agata Bolognese.

Ferruccio Lamborghini was born in Renazzo di Cento in 1916 to a family of grape farmers. While Lamborghini was trained and well-equipped by his parent to adopt farming as his life career, he was however more passionate about farm machinery than the farming itself. Hence, he quickly started training himself in that line as soon as he was old enough.

Throughout his early years and education life, Lamborghini followed his interest in mechanics and went on to study at the Fratelli Taddia technical institute. In 1940, Lamborghini was under obligation to join the Italian Royal Force, and within a short time he became the supervisor of the vehicle maintenance unit. Lamborghini went to prison at the end of the war in 1945 and was there for a year.

After returning home, Lamborghini soon got married to his first wife. Throughout his life, Ferruccio Lamborghini had three wives.

After the war, Lamborghini soon discover that there was a demand for agricultural and industrial revitalization. So, he went on to source military parts and engines from various ARAR centers and starts building his own tractors. The success of this venture spurred Lamborghini on to start his own tractor company in 1948 called the Lamborghini Trattori. Almost immediately, his company became an important manufacturer of agricultural equipment.

After the huge success of the Trattori, Ferruccio Lamborghini started brooding on the idea of producing high-end sports cars. Lamborghini was a clever man and understood the moving market and demands. Therefore, he was quite ahead of the game and got into the production of luxury sports cars at the right time. The direct result of this is the highly successful Lamborghini brand we have today.

Although the company experienced a huge financial crisis in the 1970s, it survived, to become one of the most popular high-end sports car manufacturers. This financial crisis, however, was not a good time for Ferruccio Lamborghini. He retired and proceeded to the Italian state of La Fiorita where he took to spending his days producing wine.

In 1993, at the age of 76, Ferruccio Lamborghini suffers a heart attack and passes away. Till date, Lamborghini remains a true icon in the automotive world.
