Only 106 people will be able to enjoy the McLaren Speedtail’s car configurator, hailed as the world’s best. Those lucky souls are the ones who have placed an order for the car, which debuted at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

According to McLaren, the Speedtail is the company’s first ever Hyper-GT. The most aerodynamically efficient car McLaren has ever produced, it is also its fastest vehicle. Featuring a revolutionary 1050PS hybrid powertrain, the Speedtail combines innovation and elegance, resulting in a new standard in automotive design. Owners can tailor the car to their liking, yet the car with its three seat configuration and elongated body is in and of itself a work of art as well as a technological breakthrough.

Speedtail buyers will begin the configuration process with a three-hour meeting at McLaren HQ with Jo Lewis, the brand's head of color and materials, or a McLaren representative. The meeting will provide future owners with a selection paint samples, leather types, carbon-fiber weaves and colors and seat upholstery, as well as the precious metals for the badges.

There are an array of leather options, including a natural leather and a lighter leather, which can be dyed or painted in any color buyers choose. There are also several embossing options and upholstery patterns inspired by the vehicle’s reverse-teardrop shape.

The Speedtail itself can also be manufactured in a variety of carbon fibers, including a titanium covered fiber and a thin fiber with layered with quartz, which adds color. Of course, if money is no object, which if you’re buying a McLaren Speedtail, it probably isn’t, buyers can also have the front badge made from precious metals, such as 24-karat gold or platinum.

After your initial three-hour meeting, McLaren will hold a second meeting with clients after they have carefully considered their configurations and seen the renderings. Following the meeting, the spec of the car will be finalized and be ready to enter production, which begin later this year after the Senna and Senna GTR are completed.

This unique process, which only several dozen will enjoy  though the rest of mere mortals can dream  is understandable given that the Speedtail costs more than $2 million.
