People look for many things when buying a car. It's only natural, as there are countless categories and subtle variations between different types of cars across different price ranges. Finding one you want can be a challenge, as there are hundreds of models to choose from.

Buying a new car presents the safest choice though, as manufacturer warranties, and leases you can get out of reducing any regret from buying a car that isn't exactly what you were looking for. Regardless though, buying a car new remains the popular choice, as you get a car that's only ever been driven by you, and offers all the latest and greatest features and advancements.

Not every new car is advanced though, plenty of affordable (and even expensive) models can lag behind the times in certain areas. While technology is one thing, performance is another. Despite it being 2020, there are still new cars out there that are pathetically slow.

So read on, to see the 10 slowest cars you can buy new in 2020:

10  2021 Subaru Crosstrek - 0-60 MPH In 9.2 Seconds

Via Youtube

Subaru's entry into the compact SUV segment, the Crosstrek is a great car if you're looking for one that can reliably do some off-road driving, with good on-road handling and practicality. But, when it comes to performance, the Crosstrek is mediocre at best. While the 2021 Crosstrek gets an upgraded engine as an option, the base model retains the weak 152 HP Boxer engine that gives it a yawn-inducing 0-60 time of 9.2 seconds.

9 2020 Toyota Yaris - 0-60 MPH In 9.6 Seconds

Via Pickering Toyota

Toyota's long-running affordable hatchback, the Yaris is a great choice for someone looking for a practical and small new car under $17,000, but not the best in any other category, especially performance. While it should be expected out of a car this cheap, the engine isn't much of a powerhouse and gets the Yaris up to 60 MPH in an unremarkable 9.6 seconds.

8 2020 Toyota Prius - 0-60 MPH In 9.7 Seconds

Via AutoTrader

To no-one's surprise, the Toyota Prius is still one of the slowest cars you can buy, even after over a decade of updates. While the Prius does offer some great fuel economy at an affordable price, it's not what you'd call an exciting car. With 121 HP sent through a CVT transmission, the Prius crawls to 60 MPH in 9.7 seconds, at least it does it efficiently though.

7 2020 Nissan Kicks - 0-60 MPH In 9.7 Seconds

Via AutoGuide.com

A rather boring crossover SUV from Nissan, the Kicks is very affordable at around $19,000 MSRP, practical with typical SUV storage room, and has some decent features, but is severely lacking when it comes to performance. Using Nissan's rather dull CVT transmission, the 125 HP put down by the Kicks' engine manages to get the SUV up to 60 MPH in a lackluster 9.7 seconds.

6 2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid - 0-60 MPH In 10.3 Seconds

Via Napleton News

For those looking to get Prius efficiency, without the strange looks and interior of the actual Prius, Toyota's Corolla Hybrid is an excellent choice. As well, for $24,000 its a good deal for a reliable hybrid commuter car. But when it comes to performance, the base engine in the Corolla Hybrid is rather sub-par. With 121 HP on tap, the Corolla Hybrid manages a thoroughly boring 0-60 time of 10.3 seconds.

5 2020 Toyota CH-R - 0-60 MPH In 11 Seconds

Via Postmonroe

The entire concept of sport SUVs is kind of strange, the high center of gravity, and the massive weight of most SUVs contradicts any notion of sportiness, but at the very least, they can hold bigger engines that allow for some awesome straight-line performance. Despite being marketed as a fun crossover SUV, the Toyota CH-R has no business claiming any sporty characteristics, as the 2020 CH-R does a pathetic 0-60 run of 11 seconds, thanks in part to a CVT transmission.

4 2020 Ford EcoSport - 0-60 MPH In 11.2 Seconds

Via Motor1.com

Another average compact SUV the Ford EcoSport is rather new to North America, but already stands out as one of the slowest on sale. Offering good practicality and features, the Ford EcoSport's one severe drawback is the incredible lack of performance. Producing just 123 HP from its 1.0 L engine, the EcoSport manages to eventually get up to 60 MPH in 11.2 seconds.

3 2020 Nissan Versa - 0-60 MPH In 11.3 Seconds

Via Motor1.com

Nissan's affordable economy sedan, the Versa is by no means a special car, but will get the job done when it comes from getting you from point A to point B. Several facelifts have made the Versa look stylish and somewhat sporty, but the Versa is far from any notion of sporty in reality. With just 122 HP on tap, the Versa crawls from 0-60 in 11.3 seconds, and a CVT transmission guarantees a lack of any thrill during that time.

2 2021 Kia Seltos 1.5 - 0-60 MPH In 11.7 Seconds

Via Autoblog

Though newly released in North America, the Kia Seltos has been sold for a couple of years in other parts of the world. While the version exported to North America comes with a mediocre 1.6 L engine, the version Kia sells to India, South Asia, and the Middle East comes with a pathetic 1.5 L engine pumping out just 113 HP, barely enough for a heavy SUV. As a result, the Kia Seltos with the 1.5 L engine cracks 60 MPH in a yawn inducing 11.7 seconds, one of the worst performance figures for a brand new SUV.

1 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage - 0-60 MPH In 12 Seconds

Via Autotrader

There's only one reason to buy a new Mitsubishi Mirage, its cheap and comes with a warranty. For $15,000 new, its hard to beat the Mirage's price when it comes to new cars, but incredibly easy to beat its features and performance. With just 78 HP being sent through a CVT transmission, the 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage gives no illusion of speed, and gets up to 60 MPH in a painfully slow 12-second run.
