Based in Finland, Verge Motorcycles is a start-up dedicated to pushing the boundaries of design and functionality in the industry. The first production prototype of the Verge TS was unveiled at the 2019 EICMA in Milan, Italy. It wowed the crowd and set a new standard of electric motorcycles for the competitors. The TS pays homage to the original designer of the bike, Teemu Saukkio. While the other start-ups are introducing new electric bikes that offer efficiency and ease of use, the Verge TS prioritized performance above anything else. Verge promises a strong yet carefree riding experience, a unique combination that hasn’t been seen before.

From its distinctive looks and stylish design to its power-packed performance, the Verge TS sets itself apart from the rest. Here’s a look at the 2021 Tron-like Verge TS.

A regular electric motor setup includes a midship-positioned motor that drives the rear wheel with a shaft, chain, or belt. However, the 2021 Verge TS has an unconventional setup. It derives its main moving component from the hubless electric drive, where the rear wheel is the rim itself. With performance at the center stage, the 2021 Verge TS delivers exceptional results. An industry-first fully integrated electric motor, the TS produces 80 kW (107 BHP) of power and a staggering 1000 NM (735 LB-FT) of torque, equivalent to that of a Bentley Mulsanne.

The absence of chains and oils with minimal maintenance generates an unforgettable experience for the rider. Performing at the top speed of 112 mph, the electric roadster accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in a nick of 4 seconds. The motor is integrated with a large lithium-ion battery pack which offers a whopping 150-mile range in the city and 100 miles on the highway. A DC charger allows the 2021 Verge TS to charge for 50 miles within 15 minutes. Verge also offers onboard charging, which ensures that the bike can be fully charged within four hours.

The design of the 2021 Verge TS is at par with any bike from a science-fiction movie. One of the most eye-catching elements of this Finnish-produced motorcycle is the Tron-like hubless wheel. Verge has paid sharp attention to the underpinnings department of the 2021 TS. The aluminum frame is connected to a rear mono-shock and inverted front fork. The brakes include dual front-pedal discs with radial calipers. As the rear is hubless, the bike itself provides the necessary retardation required.

Designed as an electric bike from the ground up, it is engineered to be lightweight and easy to accelerate. The featherlight aluminum frame easily accommodates the large battery while lowering the overall weight of the bike. This provides a low center of gravity to the bike. The electric roadster was created with the guidance of LINK Design and Development, a design company based in Espoo, Finland.

Along with Ferrari, Polestar, Honda Auto Japan, and Yamaha Motor Europe NV, the Verge TS was awarded the 2021 Red Dot Design Award for Product Design. From a mere sketch in 2018 to a finished bike in 2021, the creators of Verge have accomplished a magnificent feat due to their hard work and motivation to elevate the electric bike game in the market.

Simply More Than Looks

Verge collaborated with some big names to ensure that the 2021 TS is safe and thrilling to ride. Brembo was the supplier for the dual front disc brakes, the suspension designer was Öhlins, and Pirelli contributed with the Rosso Corsa II tires.

The 2021 Verge TS is offered in various color schemes like the all-black, electric shade of blue, refreshing green, slick white, or a flamboyant shade of orange. Given its cutting-edge design and spectacular specifications, the bike is priced at $29,659. There are various two-wheeled and four-wheeled options in a similar price range, including the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Harley-Davidson LiveWire; however, none of them offer a head-turning design like the Verge TS.

Over the last few years, many manufacturers have used the idea of hubless wheel bikes. Although they have faltered due to the bearing problems’ located at the rim, the bearing rollers and races need to buck up with higher speeds with hub-mounting. The increased sizes lead to a difficult maneuver. With the idea of using an electric wheel as the motor, the 2021 Verge TS is designed smartly and is more than just stylish looks.

The 2021 Verge TS is a commanding premium-class bike with a unique integrated motor concept and stunning design. A smooth ride for a delightful experience, the Verge TS stands out from the crowd cruising down roadways. The manufacturing of the bike will take place in Finland. The Verge TS has been available for preorder since 2019 with a deposit of $2,357.
