Volvo is famous for its safe and reliable vehicles, but the Swedish company has never been known for high-tech vehicles, until now. The modern age has brought several changes in the way auto manufacturers operate. Recently, there has been a lot of focus on electronics, driver-assist features, and improved safety, all of which are achieved through high-end technology. Nowadays, cars use sensors, radars, motors, and other technological features to protect passengers and pedestrians on the road.

Volvo has taken great strides in this department with its S60 R-Design. The sleek sedan is touted as one of the most high-tech vehicles globally, and for a good reason. It has a host of driver-assist options as standard that are otherwise only available as an option on other cars.

You might have guessed it, but here is why the S60 R-Design edges out against its competition when it comes to technology.

Touchscreen Infotainment System

The touchscreen infotainment system is found in almost all modern vehicles. It has become more of a necessity than a luxury nowadays, which is why you will see manufacturers opting for at least a small screen instead of putting the regular Mp3 player in the dash. Volvo has kept all of this under consideration when installing the infotainment screen in the Volvo S60 R-Design.

Most cars have a pop-up screen, while others have it fixed. Volvo has gone with a different approach, which matches that of the Tesla vehicles. The infotainment screen inside the Volvo S60 is placed vertically in the center of the dash. It looks more like a tablet than a screen, and it equally dissects the two massive A/C vents.

The touchscreen system allows you to use navigation with ease while also sifting through the car settings without much hassle. Since every control and command is in the infotainment system, there are hardly any buttons on the dash and center console. It is hard to find a system that effortlessly controls the car's functions, but Volvo has done a brilliant job with their screen on the S60 R-Design.

Pilot Assist System

The Volvo S60 R-Design has a pilot assist system as an option. You can opt for the advanced package to get this set up for an additional cost. The Pilot Assist System includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Distance Alert, and IntelliSafe Assist to make the driving experience more pleasurable. When you are driving, and you want to maintain a certain speed, you can activate the Adaptive cruise control using a button, and the car will stay on the assigned speed while also keeping a safe distance from the car in front.

However, if you have cruise control switched off, then the Distance Alert system works to keep you notified on the safest distance from the car in front. The Pilot Assist feature helps out, especially on the highway, where staying inside the lane is important. The system automatically adjusts the steering to keep your S60 between the lines at all times.

360° Camera

Every vehicle has a camera nowadays, but how many can you count on your hands with a 360-degree camera setup? We are sure there are only a few cars like that in the market, and the Volvo S60 R-Design is one of them. The Volvo 360 camera helps with maneuverability as you get a bird's eye view of the vehicle from the top. You can view all the sides very easily on the massive 12.3-inch screen.

Six HD angles are available for you to use that show the vital areas of the car like the four corners, the front, and the back. The rear camera also has a zoom feature, which can help attach a trailer or back up to a vehicle. The system also shows guiding lines that project the vehicle's path, so you always know where you will end up if you continue in your current position. The 360 camera has made it very easy for beginners to learn to park.

Heads Up Display

Heads up Display (HUD) technology has been in the works for some time now, and we are finally starting to see it in cars. The Volvo S60 R-Design is one of the select few vehicles in the market right now that has this display. The HUD is beneficial for drivers as it shows vital information like speed, rpm, navigation directions, and distance up to 2 meters in front of the car. Not only does this reduce distraction, but it also keeps you alert at all times. You don't have to look towards the screen or take your eyes off the road for a second. The HUD system adapts its brightness, but you can also change its settings from within the S60 for maximum convenience.
