The new Nissan Fairlady Z/400Z, or whatever it is actually called in your territory, is generating a lot of excitement. It feels like a real return of the Nissan Z range. At the recent Tokyo Auto Salon, Nissan revealed a special, one-off orange retro-style concept of the new Fairlady Z.

Digital car renderer jlord8 has decided to take this concept a step further. He has added his own personal touches to it, and used a Fairlady Z 432 as his inspiration for it.

A Subtle Change In The Grille Area

The grille on the standard Fairlady Z is perhaps the only point of contention for many fans of the car. The retro-style orange concept addressed that with a much cleaner design. Our digital artist has progressed this further. The edges of the grille are more angled, while the lower half of the grille is slimmer and narrower than on the recent Nissan concept. This does tidy up the whole front fascia quite nicely, and it looks great without the license plate. The headlights are slightly different as well, with more of a rounded teardrop shape than on the concept, although they are quite similar.

Extra Hints Of Black To Go With The Orange

Our renderer has also added a few more hints of black across the car. The hood is now all-black, with the front fascia and the area around the Nissan logo at the front staying orange. There are new wing mirrors above the front wheels, mimicking what you would see on the classic Z cars, while the modern mirrors remain, presumably for regulations. The side of the car no longer has the black stripe running down it, and the Fairlady badging has moved to just behind the front wheels, from where it was on the car’s doors.

A Subtle But Tidy Redesign

This concept redesign is quite subtle, but it does seem to tidy up the original idea that Nissan had. If we look at the original design, we can compare it and see that jlord8’s render just has a slightly more refined appearance. And looking at the Z 432 he took as inspiration, we can see where the hood design, placement of badges and of course the wing mirror styling came from. The redesigned grille on the original concept drew a lot of praise, which makes us wonder why Nissan didn’t just use this grille on the actual production model!

We still yearn for this orange beauty to one day make it into production, even if it's just as a limited edition.
