Automobiles are responsible for making so much of the world more accessible for us. Back in the day, any new vehicle would be revolutionary, and the bar was set low. However, with time, as technology got better, our standards for what a car should be got higher.

There have been so many instances when automobile manufacturers are just releasing complete duds. These vehicles tend to have so many issues they’re completely useless. Sometimes these vehicles will fail purely because the concept is just not going to work. The best thing you can do is get away from all these vehicles.

While some of them may even look fantastic, they aren’t worth going through any trouble. The only thing these cars are good for is a good laugh every now and then. Even people who own these vehicles will admit their many shortcomings. Here are 15 utterly pointless cars.

15 Reliant Robin

fahrzeuge.dorotheum.com

The Reliant Robin is perhaps most famous because of that infamous Jeremy Clarkson review, where he kept rolling the car. While it is hilarious, you actually aren’t in trouble of flipping your Robin over unless you’re a complete lunatic. However, it’s still an underpowered three-wheeler, and there are much better trikes on the market!

14 Honda Insight

caranddriver.com

While the new Insight is a brilliant vehicle, once upon a time, that certainly wasn’t the case. The first generation of the Insight had a lot of issues, the major being the CVT transmission. These were notorious for breaking down, and the electric motor is costly to replace. It’s economical, but the CVT transmission renders these cars useless.

13 Chevrolet SSR

mecum.com

At first glance, the SSR looks like an absolute joke. It seems like the designers at Chevrolet were just playing around and, for some reason, went with this design. It’s supposed to be a convertible pickup truck. However, it doesn’t perform any of the functions correctly. The horrible gear shift doesn’t help either.

12 Velorex Oskar

The only place you should see a Velorex Oskar is an antique museum. However, at one point in time, these cars were considered practical. They could carry two adults around at a modest speed for an inexpensive cost. However, the engine won’t be able to make it modern travel distances. It’s a fantastic looking car, though!

11 Mercedes G63 AMG 6x6

motor1.com

It’s like Mercedes didn’t think the original G63 AMG wasn’t ludicrous enough, they came up with a 6-wheeler. Unless you’re some sort of millionaire off-roading enthusiast, there’s no reason to own this car. You’re not going to find parking anywhere unless you decide to pay for multiple spots. It’s just not worth the trouble.

10 Renault Avantime

autocar.co.uk

Understandably, you’re looking at this car, and the shape is just making you slightly uncomfortable. The Avantime is primarily a sports MPV. Apparently, the designers at Renault were trying to tap into the younger market with the design. While the design is somewhat iconic, mechanically, the car is a failure as well.

9 Lincoln Blackwood

There are few automotive failures as spectacular as the Blackwood. It also represents the major downfall for Lincoln as a brand. It doesn’t offer four-wheel drive, which means that off-roading is entirely off the cards. Additionally, the pickup is incredibly slow as well, so you won’t be going anywhere fast.

8 Amphicar Model 770

silodrome.com

It might surprise you, but this is an amphibious vehicle. It’s been around since 1961; however, the production of the car ended in 1968. On the road, you could apparently travel 70mph, and in the sea, it could go up to 7 knots. However, you’d be lucky to find a functioning one in the market.

7 Plymouth Prowler

motor1.com

In terms of looks, the Prowler looks something out of a Batman movie, which might make you consider buying the vehicle. However, you would do your best to steer clear of this vehicle. It has a lot of mechanical issues and doesn’t perform anything close to what you would expect.

6 Covini C6W

motor1.com

You might be scratching your eyes, but yes, the Covini C6W is an actual car. There’s no reason why you would want it, though. It looks like something out of a Hotwheels box. When you talk about performance, it holds its own, but the twin front axles are only suitable on a track.

5 Lexus CT 200 Hybrid

wall.alphacoders.com

The CT 200 is an incredibly popular car, and for one reason alone. It’s the fact that it’s a hybrid and can do almost 70 mpg. However, that is about where the good things end. The suspension of the car is unbearable, while the performance itself is dreadful. You’re much better off going for other hybrids on the market.

4 Range Rover Evoque Convertible

carcostcanada.com

The Evoque is a brilliant car and is a successful new addition to the Range Rover lineup. However, the Evoque convertible is pointless. It’s considerably more expensive than the regular car, and you get less cargo space in return. Furthermore, the vehicle is heavier, so it doesn’t have the same performance.

3 Suzuki X-90

en.wikipedia.org

It’s hard to be harsh on the X-90. The cute little Suzuki is a very optimistic small car and has all the ingredients for a fun car. However, the lack of any sort of power makes this vehicle completely lifeless. Aside from the little sportscar potential, it offers you absolutely no utility, and there’s no point in buying.

2 Cadillac ELR

automobilesreview.com

While looking back, the ELR may look like a credible luxury vehicle, back when it first came out. There was no real point to this vehicle, it was so expensive, and the competitors just blew it out of the water. Even today, in the used market, there’s no point in buying one. The maintenance costs would be through the roof.

1 Fiat 500 L

en.wikipedia.org

The 500 L works along the lines of the mini countryman, and it’s just a large version of the original 500. Yet, the 500 L completely hopeless because of one thing. The level of turbo lag when you put the foot down is just immense. It slows down incredibly, and you’ll be waiting a lot before any acceleration hits.
