The sports car is the most exciting car class of them all. If you a true petrolhead, you know that already. The design, the power, the performance, and the sound all make those magnificent machines highly desirable. But being designed for speed and driving dynamics, most supercars had to compromise on everyday usability and practicality.

In a perfect world, we would have a boring SUV for family duties, a sedan for formal outings, and a sports car for weekend fun and track days. Yes, there are some sports cars that you can use on a daily basis without any problems, but most of them are terrible daily commute cars, and today we will tell you about the 15 worst ones.

Some are very uncomfortable, some are dangerous, some are unpractical and some are even slow, but all of these cool sports cars make equally horrible choices for daily drivers.

15 Dodge Viper R/T 10

wheels.ca

When the first-gen Viper hit the streets in the early '90s, it was a real sports car revelation. However, the downside was that the Viper R/T is very uncomfortable, cramped, hard to maneuver, and extremely dangerous to drive in the rain. The first ones also didn’t have the A/C or any traction control. Imagine what that felt like in a car powered by a massive 8-liter front-mounted engine.

14 Chevrolet Corvette C4 Convertible

The C4 Coupe is one of the best sports cars for everyday use you can find, so why is the C4 Convertible one of the worst? Well, the open-top version has no trunk and only a small space behind the seats and below the convertible roof compartment. Although it behaves well in slow traffic, it is totally useless if you want to pop to the shop.

13 Ferrari F40

evo.co.uk

The F40 is one of the most magnificent Ferraris ever built but since it was derived from the abandoned Group B project. This means it has comfort, construction, and ride of an untamed rally car. There is practically no trunk space, no climate control, and the vehicle is incredibly loud and pain to drive at low speeds.

12 Alfa Romeo 4C

Alfa had a great idea with the 4C, but the realization was a bust. The 4C is best suited for the track, not on the street since it is miniature, extremely hard to look out of, uncomfortable, and totally impractical to drive every day.

11 Lamborghini Miura

Miura is gorgeous, fast, exclusive, and legendary. We might be able to forgive it for being hard to maneuver at low speeds and have almost no trunk space. But, Miuras are notorious for catching fire for no reason which makes it extremely dangerous for daily driving.

10 Ford GT

motorauthority.com

The current Ford GT is one of the most accomplished sports cars Ford has ever built. It is more of a race car than a road-going machine. That makes it almost impossible to do everyday things like go shopping or even order food at the drive-through.

9 Toyota MR2

rogerhotchkisscarsales.com

The 1999 to 2007 MR2 is a quite tempting proposal for somebody who wants sports car performance and roadster body. But, apparently, it is not suited to be a daily driver due to its notoriously ill-handling. We don't really want cars that are capable of nasty surprises in the middle of a curve.

8 Lotus Exige

autoportal.rs

The Exige is a brutal machine and one of the cars which really connects with the driver on a subconscious level. As such, it is focused on on-track driving and not on everyday duties. Apart from being almost race car-like, it has a tiny trunk that is next to the engine, and on a long drive, everything inside will melt.

7 Fiat X 1/9

Even though the X 1/9 has two trunks and is excellent on fuel, it is not suited to be a commuter car. Simply since it is powered by a tiny 1.3 or 1.5-liter engine and weighs around 2000 pounds. With just 85 hp under the hood, this car is not capable of keeping up with the traffic, and SUVs around you will look like giants.

6 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

total911.com

The GT3 RS is a magnificent road-going race car and as such, daily driving is torture. It is very low, stiff, uncomfortable, and without any practical features. That wonderful high-revving flat-six is choking on low RPMs and asks you to take it to the track, not to the mall.

5 Lancia Delta S4 Stradale

silodrome.com

The S4 Stradale was built to homologate the S4 to be able to compete in the rally championship. When you sit in the car you understand that is barely disguised rally machine which shouldn’t be let on the street, let alone used for the daily commute.

If you are over 5 foot 8 you will not be able to get inside. There is no trunk, or if it is, it is occupied by the enormous spare tire. The engine is super loud and the cabin is cramped. The Daytona Coupe may win a championship back in the sixties, but it is a terrible daily driver.

3 Lexus LFA

The LFA is probably the best product of a company that continually makes upscale Toyotas. It was a genuinely bespoke sports car with a fantastic engine. However, that dedication to making the dynamically best cars in the world made it a bad choice for everyday duties.

2 Rimac Concept One

auto-types.com

Although Rimac claims that the Concept One has an operative range of 210 miles, independent testing showed that this is not the case. Also, keep in mind that electric cars have a lower range when driving on the highway which makes this gorgeous and futuristic sports car very unsuitable for the daily commute. Not to mention the charging times.

1 Porsche 930 Turbo

caranddriver.com

The legendary 930 Turbo was a performance benchmark of the '70s and '80s, and it is still fast today. It was also reasonably practical and dependable, so what is the problem then? The problem was its notorious turbo lag and dangerous handling which earned it the nickname “Widowmaker.”
