Every gearhead loves cars, and when movies and cars meet there is inevitably the car chase scene between the heroes and bad guys. It would be unrealistic to expect either side to always have the best cars, and yet for many years in movie franchises such as James Bond, the hero would always have the best-equipped car.

Car manufactures are wise to the power of the movie industry, often providing vehicles to movie producers in return for what is in effect free advertising. After all, seeing our movie heroes driving one brand of car is good for sales. Now the bad guys too, have some serious wheels.

10 Need For Speed - Lamborghini Sesto Elemento

Sesto Elemento or sixth sense by Lamborghini featured in the Need for Speed movie climax race between bad guy Dino Brewster and former race car driver Tobey Marshall. Unveiled to the public in 201 at the Paris motor show, the Sesto Elemento is based mechanically on the Lamborghini Gallardo.

Construction follows race car convention using a space frame chassis, and composite passenger cell. Power comes from Lamborghini's 5.2-Liter V10 engine providing 578bhp, propelling the Elemento from 0-62mph in just 2.5 seconds, before accelerating onto a top speed of 218mph. Just 20 cars were planned for production, with a price stage of $2.2 million.

9 James Bond: Die Another Day - Jaguar XKR Armed To The Teeth

In a rare twist in the movie franchise, in James Bond - Die Another Day, we see one of the main protagonists driving a car every bit as modified as the normal Bond cars. Korean secret agent Zao chases down Bond in a modified Jaguar XKR, and by modified think guns, missiles and, mortars.

Jaguar provided the XKRs for the movie, built using their 4.0-liter engine, although only some of the cars were the supercharged version. Such were the demands of driving on ice, four of the cars used had adapted Ford Explorer chassis featuring all-wheel drive.

8 Fast And Furious 6 - Aston Martin DB9 - Sophisticated GT Car

With a planned ten movies (excluding spinoffs) for the Fast & Furious Franchise, there is no shortage of cars for gearheads to get excited about. In the sixth installment, bad guy Deckard Shaw is most notably seen driving the famous flip car. But earlier in the movie Deckard is spotted driving the stunning Aston Martin DB9, normally reserved for on-screen appearances with James Bond.

Launched in 2008, the DB9 is the company's successor to the DB7. Fitted with the same V12 engine as fitted to the Vanquish, producing 450bhp later to be increased to 517bhp. Production continued until 2016, and included coupe and convertible versions, before being replaced with the DB11.

Bullitt features probably the most famous car chase scene of any movie ever made, making both Frank Bullitt and the Mustang he drove legendary. In the famous chase scene, we have Frank Bullitt chasing down by two hitmen in what is in reality a faster car - not by much only fractionally beating the Mustang over the quarter-mile.

Magnum 440 spec cars produced 375bhp from their 7.2-liter engines, driving the rear wheels through either a manual or automatic transmission.

6 Cannonball Run - Ferrari 308 GTS

Priests driving a Ferrari 308GTS in an illegal road race? How could they be anything other than bad guys? It would be a surefire way to get more followers. Sammy Davis Jr and James Dean feature in The Cannonball Run as the fake priests seeking to make it big through gambling on the outcome.

Having already had some screen success on TV, the 1979 Ferrari 308GTS is one of the Italian maker's more famous designs. With just 243bhp from its 2.9-liter V8 engine, it isn't especially fast reaching just 152mph flat out.

5 Ferris Bueller's Day Off - Ferrari GT Spyder - Top-Down Cruiser

Luckily the Ferrari GT Spyder destroyed at the end of the movie was just a replica, which is probably just as well considering they fetch over $15 million at auction. While not especially fast for a Ferrari, it does come with a 3.0-liter V12 engine producing around 240bhp, good for a top speed of 140mph.

Owned in Ferris Buellers Day Off by Cameron's somewhat tyrannical father who has more love for his car than his son, the Ferrari meets its end reversing through the sheet glass windows before crashing to the ground below.

4 From Dusk Till Dawn - Mercury Cougar - Mustang Alternative

If ever there is a movie that is hard to place in a single category, then From Dusk till Dawn would surely fit the bill. Featuring bad guys the Gecko brothers on the run after a bank robbery, making their escape driving a 1968 Mercury Cougar.

Originally, the Cougar was intended to be a more luxurious and refined version of the Mustang, although mechanically there are some similarities, the two cars shared no common body panels. In standard specification, the Cougar came with a 5.0-liter V8 engine producing just 208 bhp, owners could opt for the larger 7.0-liter engine boosting power to 335bhp.

3 Bad Boys - Shelby Cobra 427 - Never Goes Out Of Style

No introduction is needed for the Shelby Cobra 427, its history and performance is legendary amount gearheads. Such is the popularity of the car, there are dozens of high-quality replicas for owners to build themselves.

The closing sequence of Bad Boys features the show-down involving the Cobra being driven by Fouchet, the main bad guy, racing against our heroes in a Porsche. Despite what the movie claims, the Cobra with its 7.0-liter V8 engine producing 410bhp is quicker accelerating and has a small top speed advantage over the Porsche.

2 Swordfish - TVR Tuscan Speed-6 - Quirky British Sports Car

Bad guys need something unusual to drive, and they don't come are more unusual than the TVR Tuscan Speed-6 featured in Swordfish. Built using a tubular chassis and glass fiber body keeps weight down while utilizing the TVR built Speed-6 engine providing 400bhp, 0-60mph taking just 4 seconds before topping out at 185mph.

TVR famously didn't install any safety features in any of their cars, believing they reduce the driving experience. Movie bad guy Gabriel Shear (John Travolta) enlists the convicted computer hacker to assist in stealing billions of dollars for the US Government.

1 James Bond: Spectre - Jaguar C-X75

Jaguar has in the past been known to produce a few concept cars, most remain just that and end up consigned to a museum display somewhere. In the case of the C-X75, designed to showcase the talents of Jaguar engineers, the car featured in the James Bond movie Spectre driven by professional assassin Mr. Hinx.

Designed with a top speed of 220mph it is surprising to find just a 1.6-liter supercharged and turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, but the car is claimed to have 900bhp, so clearly there is more to the engine on this car. Additional power comes from two electric motors, driving the wheels through a 7-speed transmission. There are no plans to put the C-X75 into production, but the technology did make it into other vehicles built by Jaguar.
