When thinking of the Korean car manufacturer, Hyundai was commonly known for its affordable vehicles and underpowered daily drivers, though when the Genesis line was introduced, it all changed.

Hyundai Motor Company was founded in 1967, producing a plethora of vehicles in all shapes and sizes. Coming in just under $80,000, the 2022 Genesis G90 gives you more than you could desire. The Genesis offers you many of the same amenities as other luxury brands for drastically less.

Through the years the Genesis was on the car market, it was already having large success, which further validated the thought of branching off. Furthermore, customers wanted their own division for their luxurious vehicles. Here's more about the Korean, luxury car manufacturer and why the G90 is money well spent.

The Genesis Platform

In 2008, the Hyundai Genesis debuted at the North American International Auto Show but wasn’t its own entity like it is now. Commonly today, people mistake Genesis as an entity of Hyundai, though it's far from the case. It branched off in 2015 with the release of the G90, a premium sports sedan. The Genesis G90 is the successor to the Hyundai Equus, which was a car only native to the country of manufacturing. When the Genesis was first released, it was marketed nationwide, but in the European markets.

One of the main selling points of the Genesis line is the luxurious amenities that come at a fantastic entry price. Commonly, these amenities would be found in more expensive car brands, such as Tesla, BMW, or Mercedes. While it isn’t cheap money, it’s on fire sale in comparison to what you’d have to purchase to get the same features. The recipe for a luxury car is as follows: featuring a comfortable interior, an aesthetically pleasing exterior, and making it quick/fast. Luckily, the Genesis checked off in each category, with a price tag of under $80,000.

Genesis G90 Features and Design

The Genesis G90 offers driver assist, as many of the other premium car manufacturers do. The difference between Hyundai and its competitors is that they included all these features in the MSRP price of the Genesis. For other manufacturers, driving assist is not included as standard equipment, drawing more money from your wallet. The Genesis G90 features highway driving assist, lane assist, and blind-spot detection. This automatically monitored the distance between the cars surrounding you, maintaining a safe speed on its own.

The whole idea behind Genesis is more for less. Standard equipment includes a 17-speaker entertainment system, Apple Carplay, Android Auto, and a wireless charging pad built into the center console. Encapsulating the sound are the triple-sealed doors and dual-pane acoustic glass, blocking out unnecessary noises from the exterior. Holding you in was a 22-way adjustable driver seat and by using Smart Posture Care, it could calibrate the seat and surrounding accessories best suited for your physique. Making the ride even smoother was the adaptive suspension that the G90 offered, adapting to road conditions and performance situations alike.

Genesis Performance

3.3t

Continuing the recipe for a luxury car, Hyundai gave the Genesis an excellent engine platform. When the Genesis G90 debuted, it was released with four different engine configurations: a 3.3T, 3.3T HTRAC, 5.0L, or 5.0L HTRAC. The 3.3T was a twin-turbo V6 setup that is commonly used in many performance cars. With the low-end torque of a V6 and the top-end support from the two turbos, you’re left with an extreme amount of torque and power that is usable in all RPM ranges.

This is why these Twin Turbo V6 engine configurations are commonly found on performance vehicles, such as R35 GTRs, B5 S4s, and many others. Those that want a little more power out of the box can opt for the 5.0 version, which is capable of pushing 420 horsepower and 383lb-ft of torque, not to mention the roar of a V8.

Still, this wasn't to overlook the V6 model, as it proves to be plenty capable. As tuners and enthusiasts continue to experiment with the platform, with as simple as an ECU flash, the 3.3t was capable of pushing 450 horsepower, making it a true contender amongst its class. Similar performing vehicles run for nearly double the Genesis' MSRP.

Affordably Luxurious

The Korean luxury brand, Genesis, has continued to prove over its models have what it takes to be a luxurious sedan on the market today. Similar cars of its class and performance are the Mercedes S-Class or any of the upper-tier Audi or BMW models, which will run you well over what the most expensive G90 would cost: $80,000.

With a handful of driving assist features and a plush, leather interior, the Genesis remains a great value. With no other competitors featuring the same amount of amenities for the value, Genesis remains an affordable, luxurious car manufacturer.
