Nearly 20 years ago, Infiniti introduced a new segment of vehicles that had the practicality of an SUV and the performance of a sports car. The car was named Infiniti FX and became an instant hit among fans and automobile enthusiasts in general. The biggest reason behind this success was that it was built on Nissan’s famous FM platform. What made the platform special was that it was shared with the Nissan 350Z, an amazing sports car, and utilizing the platform for an SUV was never done before.

The Infiniti FX was discontinued after two years of production, thereby leaving a hole in the Infiniti lineup. For 2022, Infiniti is bringing back the line with the all-new Infiniti QX55. The vehicle is a successor to the sporty SUV that it now replaces. There is a lot to like about this car as it features sharp designs and styling, which comes with an all-wheel drive as standard, along with the turbocharged engine.

The QX55 is powered by a 2-liter, 4-cylinder engine, also found in the QX50. The engine, called VC Turbo, produces around 268 HP. It is mated to a CVT gearbox, and power is sent to all four wheels as the all-wheel drive comes standard on this vehicle. This happens to be the only engine available on offer. The SUV also has decent acceleration for its mass and size, as it makes the 0-60 MPH sprint in just 6.4 seconds. The handling of the SUV is fairly capable but not athletic; besides, the SUV performs similarly to the QX50, and the vehicle returns a combined fuel economy of 27 MPG. Overall, the car has a smooth ride, the peaky turbo engine delivers efficient power, and even the NVH levels are low, providing a silent cabin experience. Compared to its elder sibling, the QX50, the QX55 has a much more dynamic field to the way it rides.

QX55 boasts a stylish and well-equipped cabin. The quality levels of the interior depend upon the trim chosen. The base model comes standard with 4 leather upholstery, while Infiniti also offers a full leather package as an option. The higher models feature a Black Natural Maple Wood Open Pore Trim, which feels like a breath of fresh air among other sporty SUVs. QX55’s cabin is fairly practical, with a carbon fiber treatment in the cabin; like most of its competitors. Infiniti has made sure that it makes use of a ton of soft-touch materials all around. As the vehicle's exterior design features a sloping roofline, it might compromise or eat into the headroom for the rear seat occupants, making it questionable. The cabin is also loaded as the Infiniti QX55 comes with a dual-screen infotainment setup where the top screen provides a navigation function and the lower screen shows in media and vehicle settings. The upper screen shows the navigation is 8-inches in dimension, and the lower screen is a 7-inch unit. The car comes with a wireless Apple car play and Android Auto, which is also a first for any Infiniti vehicle. The carmaker provides an optional 16 speaker Bose surround sound system, while a 6 speaker audio system is offered as standard.

Infiniti offers a suite of driver assistance features, and the QX55 also comes with an optional ProPilot semi-autonomous driving mode. Some key safety features of the vehicle include standard forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking, standard blind-spot monitoring, along with rear cross-traffic alert. As an option, the SUV also features adaptive cruise control and semi-autonomous driving. The pricing of the QX55 is also fairly sorted out, as the entry-level Luxe trim starts at around $47,000. The middle trim is priced at about $52,000, and the top-of-the-line sensory trim is close to $60000. The vehicle’s base pack offers all-wheel drive and a long list of standard safety features. The Infiniti QX55 Offers tremendous value for money and should be a good pick for someone looking for a sporty and practical SUV. The vehicle's sloping roofline might just compromise the headroom of the rear seat occupants, but in return, it adds a very good styling appeal to the car and makes it stand out among its competitors.
