Sure, your eyes are naturally drawn towards the passenger model ID. Buzz. But the Cargo model has quite a few impressive characteristics of its own. Volkswagen has now revived the iconic Bus in an all-electric form. Like the original. it was available in many versions. The new ID. Buzz will follow in those footsteps and the ID. Buzz Cargo is one of the many forms of the new electric bus that will be available. We take a look at all the cool features of the new ID. Buzz Cargo and highlight its best feature.

The ID. Buzz Cargo’s platform is the same MEB architecture used for the passenger model. It is a similar story with the powertrain. It uses the same 77 kWh (usable) battery pack that powers the rear-mounted electric motor. It makes 201 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque. Volkswagen hasn't released the verified range the ID. Buzz Cargo will offer for now.

The ID. Buzz Cargo is similar in proportions to the passenger model. However, the loadsill has been made wider, naturally, to accommodate large and wide cargo. The ID. Buzz cargo is also slightly taller at 76.3-inches. Otherwise, the Cargo is the same 185.5-inches long, 78.1-inches wide, and features a 117.6-inch wheelbase, all identical to the passenger model.

The ID Buzz Cargo Gets Some Exterior Changes

The exterior styling of the commercial Cargo model is similar to the ID. Buzz passenger model. However, there are some subtle, and other more obvious differences. As standard, the ID. Buzz Cargo features a single sliding door, however, a second door can be equipped for an added cost. As expected, the side windows from the passenger model have been paneled out. It was earlier reported that the Cargo will feature a split barn-door design rear door, however, the images released of the ID. Buzz Cargo suggests it features a hatch as well.

The passenger cell of the ID. Buzz Cargo can be specified in a two-seat configuration or a three-passenger bench. The two-seat model allows for some added storage space in between. As for comfort features, the ID. Buzz cargo is equipped with the same digital gauge cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system that runs wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There are a total of five USB-C ports to charge and power electronic devices, (one for a dashcam). Two cup holders are standard on both the passenger and Cargo models. But the commercial model adds another two cup holders mounted on the A-pillars.

As standard, the ID. Buzz Cargo will feature a partition wall behind the front seats. It separates the passenger cell from the massive cargo area. Volkswagen claims that the space in the ID. Buzz Cargo is large enough to accommodate two “euro pallets”. The payload for the Cargo is said to be 1,433 pounds with a total of 137.7 cubic feet in storage space. The ID Buzz cargo tips the scale at 6,614 pounds.

The storage space inside the ID. Buzz Cargo is large enough to fit a mattress and turn it into a make-shift camper. However, a special California Camper model of the ID. Buzz is also going to be made available soon.

The base model ID. Buzz Cargo is finished in a monochrome single exterior color with a set of 18-inch steelies. However, it can be specced in a split-tone configuration, while wheel size options are available up to 20-inches. Furthermore, the Cargo model will be available with many optional features. They include ambient lighting, electrical tailgate, matrix LED headlights, rearview camera, electric folding, heated side mirror, and a tow-bar among many more.

However, the coolest feature we think is the wooden flooring for the cargo area that comes as standard. It's not every day that you stumble across a car with wooden flooring.

The ID Buzz range looks to make vans and MPVs cool again as they look to compete against the trendy SUVs. The ID Buzz and Cargo both will be manufactured by VW Commercial Vehicles in Hanover, Germany. Pre-orders will begin in May for the European market before it goes into production later this year. There is no word at the moment on the Cargo’s arrival in the US market. However, the ID. Buzz passenger model is expected in 2023, while the California Camper would arrive no sooner than 2025.
