Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, but sometimes we unanimously agree on what's beautiful and what's not. In the automotive industry, the beauty aspect alone is enough to determine a vehicle's market success, even when performance isn't necessarily primed. When beauty meets great performance in a creatively designed machine, it marks the beginning of a splendid car, possibly one that will drive its way into history books.

Car designing is a lengthy and costly process that doesn't always result in beautiful machines. Nonetheless, even when they may be lacking in beauty, several other aspects such as performance keep them on the road. What a vehicle may lack in beauty may be compensated in performance features.

Interestingly, every automaker has at one time built a car that never achieved great aesthetics. Ford, Nissan, Ferrari, and nearly everyone else has ugly pieces they would love to forget. However, the challenge is when an automaker becomes a specialist in building ugly cars despite long-ranging criticism. Notably, supercars and sports cars don't feature prominently on the list of the "ugliest."

Our list of considerably ugly cars has everyday vehicles and focuses mainly on the aesthetics and the creativity put into it. Let's get into the details.

7 Nissan Juke

The frog-shaped Nissan Juke is undoubtedly not a very pleasant sight to keep your eyes on for long. However, this styling still makes it a tough-looking SUV capable of serious road gymnastics, albeit with several limitations. Regardless, the Juke has eaten many frogs to become an alternative pick for many automotive enthusiasts.

The Nissan Juke was introduced in 2011 and has gone to the unfortunate records of ugliest cars. The main challenge with the Juke's shape is granted by the rear fenders, which makes it look like it has a raised set of hips. The main front lights also seem to struggle between an oval and circle shape, eventually failing to add any aesthetic value to this car. In this case, whichever angle you evaluate the Nissan Juke from, you find something unsettling that contributes to its "ugliness."

6  Toyota Fortuner

Looking at the Fortuner, it becomes very clear that it borrows heavily from the Toyota Hilux pickup truck. The influence is all over, and this is possibly one of the reasons why this car fails to achieve much in aesthetics.

The Fortuner is a formidable and amazing Fortuner 4x4 wagon, but we cannot quite understand why Toyota never thought much about its styling and design. Perhaps if the Fortuner might increase its fortunes if the designers took a little more time and gave it a life of its own as opposed to heavily relying on a donor.

5  Nissan Cube

The Nissan Cube is characteristically distinct and has no competitor for which you would confuse it. It's plain boxy and almost rectangular in shape, one of the blandest vehicles to own.

We understand the need for car stylists to build unique machines but Nissan's design choice for the Cube denotes an overwhelming lack of taste. The asymmetrical rear of the cube ranks in a class without many competitors as far as bad looks go.

4  Toyota C-HR

Just like the human face, the fascia of any car makes it beautiful or outright beaten. As we get down this list, this will become more evident.

The Toyota C-HR has undergone serious restyling but we cannot understand why it still looks sad. While the grille is thicker and bold, it has vent openings on each end that look like tears dripping down its face. We understand the practicality of these elements but that’s exactly what makes this car unappealing.

3 BMW i3

Without mincing words, Motor Trend described the BMWi3 as "so ugly that no one with properly-functioning retinas will want one." It is a verdict emphasized by others more close to the company and offering criticism from inside. The BMW blog acknowledges that most customers simply don't like it at all.

Trouble for the BMW i3 begins with its inability to define where it really fits. It's plump and meaty with a short front end that makes it seem incomplete or hurriedly put together. It's so weirdly shaped that even the characteristic kidney grille of the BMW struggles to fit in.

The Tesla Cyber Truck may be everything modern but good-looking. Whereas Tesla makes a great effort to make them as tech-savvy as possible, the aesthetics perspective on the Cyber Truck is conspicuously absent. It has been called." ugly as sin," perhaps a heavily punishable sin.

A survey conducted in America said that up to 71% of respondents either held a negative view of Cyber Truck's look or were simply indifferent. What the Tesla Cybertruck lacks in aesthetics compensates with detailed technological advances.

1 Toyota Rumion

Boxy-looking cars such as the Nissan Cube always attract immense attention on the road. But the Rumion is not good looking at all and it's all got to do with its shape.

For the most part, the Rumion has nearly straight lines, only bending where necessary. As such, it fails to gain enough curves to give it beauty or any kind of taste. The only thing that the Rumion seems to do well is looking bold and fat in a manner that would make it a perfect bully on the road.
