Some sports cars have brilliant interiors and can go insanely fast. Cars like the McLaren Senna and the Ferrari Enzo are great examples of exciting interiors being added to extremely fast cars. Despite this, there have been a number of cars that are insanely fast, but just don't have exciting interiors - in fact, they are quite boring.
Being fast but having a boring interior can be a bit of a letdown when consumers can be paying obscene amounts of money on a car that doesn't seem to have the full package. This list will explore the various cars which are great in terms of speed, but just don't have the most exciting interiors to match.
10 Nissan GT-R Nismo
The Nissan GT-R Nismo was introduced by Nissan in 2013 as a faster version of the GT-R. The current edition launched in 2020, and Nismo was incredibly fast and is suited to the track. Nissan have claimed that the top speed for the Nismo is 205mph, and the car was measured to accelerate 0-60 in 2.48 seconds.
Sadly, Nissan did not make the interior live up to the speed of the GT-R Nismo. The interior is quite boring for a car that is so fast. The stereo area is rather crowded too, with the features being very dated in a modern sports car. There was more expected from the Nismo.
9 Alfa Romeo 4C
Alfa Romeo launched the 4C coupe in 2013. The top speed of the car was 160mph, making it a very fast sports car. The 4C was also rather stylish, despite the low kerb weight. Alfa Romeo definitely focused on driver engagement with the 4C.
Despite having such a solid performance, the inside of the 4C is dull. The trim is plastic, and the dashboard is boring. Included in this is a small trunk, which is not favorable. The Alfa Romeo brand definitely didn't focus on the small details and looked at the bigger picture of performance overall.
8 McLaren 570S
Launched in 2015, the McLaren 570S is equipped with a 3.8-liter V8 engine. The vehicle was very powerful, with 562bhp on tap. Reaching a top speed of 199mph, the McLaren was a brilliant car when it was launched and it is still brilliant to drive today too.
Inside the car, the tech system isn't the best. With the stitching issues that McLaren has run into previously, the 570S is no different. As well as this, consumers must pay for more components for the interior if they so wish, which is quite difficult to swallow when buyers are expected to pay over $190,000 for the car in the first place without extras.
7 Chevrolet Camaro (fifth generation)
Chevrolet launched the fifth generation of the Camaro in 2010. Its outside appearance looked very retro, but brought modern engineering quality with it. The V8 engine boosted performance and the vehicle is available in both coupe or convertible options. The face-lifted version in 2014 could reach over 170mph.
The finish on the interior is quite good, but the car seems to have something missing for the impressive vehicle that it is. Generally, there just aren't some finishing touches which would have boosted the appeal of the interior. Even so, the vehicle does have some unique parts to it, but could have just been a bit sleeker to add some more luxury.
6 Lotus Evora GT
Lotus launched the Evora GT in 2020. Having 416bhp and from a 3.5-liter V6 engine heightens the power of the car, which is only available in the US. The manual transmission version of the Evora GT brings the top speed of the car to 188mph. Alongside these areas, the steering of the Evora GT is brilliant too, and the vehicle is definitely catered towards drivers.
Despite Lotus bringing a lot to the table in terms of tech and power, the interior is lacklustre. Some of the cabin area feel cheap, and the dashboard isn't as high a standard as competing cars, and is pretty small too. The boring interior brings a bit of disappointment to the GT, as the rest of the car is excellent overall.
5 Mercedes SL 55 AMG (R230)
The Mercedes SL 55 AMG, released in 2002, had the capability of 186 mph when consumers opted in for this option. When released, the SL 55 AMG was the fastest automatic car in the entire world.
In terms of the interior, the period in which the SL 55 AMG was launched was when Mercedes were having issues with quality. Despite having a leather and wooden interior, these weren't particularly well designed and wasn't really that interesting. It was a disappointment for Mercedes due to the usual brilliant build quality prior to this period.
4 MG SV
The MG SV was launched in 2003. The SV made use of a Ford V8 and was highly anticipated by enthusiasts and reviewers upon its release. Yet, at the time MG had plenty of money issues which meant that the interior could not be up to the standard that it should have been.
Despite being capable of 175mph, because MG didn't have the money to put new parts in the car, the interior ended up becoming a parts bin special. Everything was pretty much a disappointment with the interior, especially when people thought about what the MG SV could have been had the brand had the right money available.
3 Porsche 911 GT3 (996)
Made for the track, Porsche launched the 911 GT3 (996) in 1999. The car was homologated for the FIA GT3 cup. The Porsche was definitely a capable member of the racing group as it could reach a top speed of 190mph. Porsche made the GT3 996 extremely lightweight, meaning that the car could be as agile as possible.
However, the weight being so light in the 996 meant that there had to be plenty of items removed from the car that were not pertinent to its ability to work. Porsche removed the rear seats, the loudspeakers in the back, whilst also making the stereo optional. Because the 996 was fit for the track, it didn't need these items in the vehicle, which made the interior fairly boring for those who didn't want to use the vehicle on the track.
2 Dodge Viper (First generation)
Dodge launched the first generation of the Viper in 1991. The top speed of the Viper is approximately 165 mph and the car can accelerate 0-60 in 4.2 seconds. The vehicle was pretty impressive in terms of power too, reaching over 400 bhp. Not always easy to control, more experienced drivers were better equipped to handle this car.
The interior of the Viper was not great, and it was pretty boring. The Vipers are bland on the inside, where they are cheaply made. Pretty much renowned for their cheap, bin parts special interiors, the first generation was no different to later generations in terms of interior finish.
1 Lotus Carlton
The Lotus Carlton was also known as a Vauxhall Lotus Carlton and was released in 1990 as an upgrade by Lotus. The car was a saloon but could reach 177 mph, which was extremely impressive for a 90's four-door car. Lotus managed to boost acceleration to be that of the same as sports cars released around the same time, highlighting brilliant innovation.
Yet, despite the great upgrades added to the car, the interior was pretty boring. Lotus decided to keep the interior as the Vauxhall saloon, so the vehicle remained pretty bland and basic. Pretty disappointing on the interior, but the car was definitely fast and won over many as it was faster than some Ferraris and Porsches.
