There are so many cars made today that it can be tough to filter out all the garbage that's being made. Many manufacturers like Ford are dropping almost every car they make in favor of SUVs and trucks. Others like Audi or Volvo make some great cars but none of them are purely rear-wheel-drive only. Still others, like Porsche or Maserati, build outstanding sports cars and sedans that we love but they're sincerely expensive. The cheapest Porsche 911 made today is more than $90,000. That's far outside the price range of the large majority.

What if I told you that there were at least 15 excellent options on the market that cost less than half of what that 911 does. Every car here actually costs $39,999 or less. Each one is brand new, and all of them are rear-wheel drive and totally amazing to drive. Some are a bit more luxurious, others are pretty stripped down and a total blast to drive, all are a great deal for the money.

15 Mazda Miata

Mazda MX-5 Miata: The Coolest Sportscar Ever
via BladesMagazine

Of course, the top of the list has to be the Miata. Prices are cheap and this is by far the most refined version of this car ever built. It's the standard for a good, reliable, fun, comfortable sports car for a reason. You'll never regret it.

14 Mercedes CLA250 Coupe

motortrend.com

The CLA250 Coupe isn't a true Coupe at all but who cares right? The Taycan has the word Turbo on it and Audi 3.0T isn't turbo either so names don't matter as much anymore in Germany. The 250 isn't wildly fast but here's the truth. It's properly lovely to drive.

13 Dodge Charger

Most Stolen: Dodge Charger HEMI
via USAToday

It's old-school cool but doesn't look like it. The Charger comes with 300 horsepower no matter which one you buy and carries 5 people comfortably. Dodge has made huge improvements to the interior too. The Tech package is a must-have and still get in under $40,000.

12 Genesis G70

via CNBC

This is the new BMW fighter from Hyundai. Their new Genesis line may not last, but we certainly hope it does. They look fantastic, the build quality sincerely looks fantastic and the engines are pretty potent. There's a lot to love here.

11 Fiat 124

Via: Car and Driver

Yep, this is also on the list because at the end of the day, while it's similar to the Miata, the engine itself is different. I personally like the Fiat motor more. It sounds so much more aggressive than any 4-cylinder should be capable of.

These two are together since the only differences are visual. Both are a total hoot. They're the Miata alternative for those who want something a little more quirky that can do a bit more on a track. They're also super customizable with a huge aftermarket.

9 Cadillac CT4

kelwaysvillage.com

The CT4 is on this list because you can get the Sport version with 310 horsepower and 355 ft-lbs of torque for less than $39,000. That's an outstanding deal considering everything this small sedan is capable of. It will come with a ten-speed transmission too so it sips fuel when you're not romping on it.

8 Lexus RC300

I'm not personally a huge fan of the RC but having driven one I can say this. They're amazingly comfortable, and they make you feel special. The interior is outstanding just like we've come to expect from Lexus, and I was shocked at how many people turn their heads to check this wild-looking thing out. With $2500 cashback offers from Lexus going on right now they check in at $38,499 as of this writing.

7 Kia Stinger

Perhaps one of the best choices on this list when it comes to the balance between performance, reliability, capability, and styling is the Stinger. Lately, we've been getting reports that it's on the chopping block if sales don't pick up too, so if you're in the market go get one. They're selling these things with 365 horsepower and RWD. They're so much better than they get credit for.

6 BMW 2 Series

topgear.com

This car just loves corners. It's not wildly fast in a straight line but that doesn't matter. BMW is a truly excellent car builder and while I wouldn't recommend keeping one of these for a long, long while, I do think that while under warranty it's an outstanding car.

5 Alfa Romeo Giulia

Via hearstapps.com

Yep, the Giulia can be had in base trim for less than $40,000. There's no car here that looks as good as it does IMO. It's stunning and rare. You want to be the guy or gal that stands out? The Giulia is for you. It's going to be under warranty too so reliability issues aren't a concern.

4 Ford Mustang

The Mustang is probably the best Muscle car available today and the fact that the base car is a turbocharged powerplant means you can push more power very cheaply. I also think it's the best handling Mustang ever built.

3 Dodge Challenger

motorauthority.com

The Challenger is a super comfortable GT cruiser. This thing will eat up highway miles with ease and in its cheapest form, come with 300 horsepower. That's a screaming deal too. The looks are old-school and quite dapper as well.

2 Chevrolet Camaro

Perhaps the ugliest muscle car on this list, the Camaro gets a ton of flack but is still a good option if you're a bowtie diehard. Aftermarket upgrades are plentiful so you can fix some of the shoddy styling and let's remember that these things are notoriously reliable.

1 Tesla Model 3

Tesla Model 3
via Tesla

By far the most technologically advanced car here, the Tesla Model 3 is a winner in every way. The slowest version, the only RWD model, does 0-60 in 5.3 seconds. That's faster than the new (and much more expensive) WRX STI S209. We haven't even dipped into things like autopilot, styling, no fuel and maintenance costs, etc. It's a winner in every way.
