Riding a motorbike allows you to experience pleasures that most drivers don't get to enjoy. What could be better than driving down the highway at blistering speeds while avoiding the traffic and consuming minimum gas?

Although motorbike riders get to enjoy several perks that drivers cannot experience in cars, riding has inherent dangers. Some riders don't abide by the rules of the road and feel that they can overlook them due to the compact size of the motorbike. The problem with riders circumventing the road rules is that they place their lives, as well as other road users, in danger. That is the biggest problem that drivers have with riders. Drivers don't mind sharing the road with bikers but get peeved when riders get in their way. The feud between drivers and riders has been ongoing since the invention of cars and motorbikes.

So, what is it that bothers drivers so much about motorbike riders? To find out the perpetual grapple that has been going on between them, we studied the roads and gleaned information from drivers about a biker's habits that annoy them. We also asked riders what they think that they do, which infuriates drivers. Enjoy!

21 Going The Wrong Way...On Purpose

via Videoblocks

What would happen if a car drove in the wrong direction of a one-way street? People would freak out and feel that they could get hurt. Riders forget that their actions not only have an impact on them but on others, as well.

When bikers take the wrong route, some of them return down the same road regardless of it being the wrong way. The convenience of taking the same road might serve riders but puts others in jeopardy. Maybe the compact size of the bike makes riders believe that they can do it.

20 Weaving In Between Cars...Also On Purpose

via Wired

That is a big one. Do that, and I guarantee that you will irritate most drivers. Yes, some drivers are jealous that riders can circumvent the traffic and reach a destination before them, but drivers don't want you anywhere near their car. That's the reason they dislike it when you weave between cars.

The worst part is that some bikers weave through cars at high speeds, placing everyone in danger. If you don't want to irritate drivers, the best thing to do is to stay away from them.

19 Riding On Sidewalks...You Guessed it, on purpose!

via Youtube

We understand that traffic is unpleasant, and everyone wants to avoid it. Unfortunately for drivers of regular vehicles, circumventing the traffic is difficult unless you break the rules of the road. That is what some riders do to make their journey less unpleasant.

Apart from using the emergency lane to avoid traffic, bikers will ride on the sidewalk to avoid congestion. Besides placing themselves in a harmful situation, they also expose pedestrians to an unpleasant and dangerous situation.

18 Tailgating Cars

via Zombiedrive Motor

Is there anything more annoying on the road than a vehicle stuck to your rear? Besides the inherent danger of tailgating cars, it is annoying. If a biker feels that the car in front of him is driving too slow, he or she can overtake the car instead of tapping the rear bumper with the front bike wheel.

When bikers annoy drivers with tailgating, drivers might brake test the rider, which can cause accidents. When drivers pull over to let you have the way, it's not because they're polite; they want you out of their way.

17 Riding In The Driver's Blind Spot

via Youtube

The fastest way to annoy anybody on the road is by traveling in somebody's blind spot. By doing that, you put your life in danger and the people occupying the vehicles that you've chosen to commute in their blind spot. For some strange reason, some bikers tend to travel on the driver's blind spot before overtaking. That is a bad idea. Besides irritating the driver and putting everyone's lives in danger, you give the driver an impression that you're trying to hijack him. Stay away from cars for everyone's benefit.

16 Not Stopping At Red Lights And Signs

via Mad Monkey Hostels

Car drivers are also to blame for this one, but one of the things that bikers do that peeves drivers are not obeying the red light and the stop sign. Red light means stop, and a stop sign also means stop. Some bikers need to hear the obvious, as they don't practice it.

Bikers might think due to the compact size of their rides that nobody will notice when they skip a red light or don't stop at the stop street; everybody does notice. Skipping a red light puts all road users in danger, and don't think that you can get through the intersection without hurting anyone.

15 Revving The Engines Loud

via Born To Ride

Cars do this, too, and trust me; they're not cool when they do it nor are you if you're a biker. Most people don't appreciate excessive noise regardless of the location. When bikers pull up to a red light and rev the engine to show that they're handling a massive machine between their legs, it serves no other purpose than to annoy other road users.

Revving your engine makes you look arrogant and annoys others due to excessive noise and the pollution emitted through the exhaust. Most people find humility attractive, not arrogance.

14 Changing Lanes Without Indicating

via The National

Bikers aren't the only culprits who don't indicate without changing lanes; drivers do it, too. Some bikers believe that they don't have to indicate due to the agility of the bike, meaning it won't have an adverse effect on other road users. Wrong. Not indicating prompts road users to believe the opposite of your intention and could cause accidents.

The other problem that drivers have with bikers is that bikers don't look behind them before turning to see that the lane is clear, according to Cartoq. Indicate and check the lane before turning.

13 Hitting Wing Mirrors

via Mobiliter

Oh, oh. This has happened to me. I understand that accidents occur when people abide by the rules of the road; those people I can forgive. What I don't accept is when riders cause trouble while they're breaking the road rules. Hitting the car's side mirrors is one of the reasons that drivers don't like it when riders weave in between cars.

Drivers have every right to be angry at bikers who hit their wing mirrors, as bikers should be in their lane and not stuck to the car. Again, stay away from the car, and everything will be fine.

12 Jumping Dividers

via Ford is your Car

This point is related to riders taking the sidewalk to make their lives easier. The authorities use dividers to split the different form of traffic on the road, as well as catering to bicycles and pedestrians.

The word divider means to divide or split a group or things from each other, but some bikers don't understand that or choose to ignore it, as they jump over the divider to avoid the traffic. Using someone else's lane isn't only inconsiderate, it is also illegal and places others in danger. The simple rule is to stay in the designated lane.

11 Riding Too Fast

via Motorcycle Cruiser

Nobody can argue that you expose yourself to more risk as you increase the speed of your vehicle. Besides placing your life in danger, you can hurt others. While manufacturers have designed bikes to perform at blistering speeds, that doesn't mean that bikers are allowed to do it on public roads.

Bikers who want to test the top speed of their bikes can do it on the track. The authorities have enforced speed limits to keep all road users safe, and when riders travel above speed limits, they are a menace to society.

10  Riding Too Slow

via Motorcyclist

Drive behind a car that is too slow and occupies the road, and you'll understand why drivers don't like slow vehicles. Although bikes are performance machines, some bikers drive slow in certain parts of town. Drivers don't like bikers who ride too fast, but they also don't like bikers who drive too slow. Driving slow, as well as driving fast, can result in accidents, according to Bikes Republic.

Drivers also feel that bikers are trying to irritate them when they drive slow. Stick to the speed limit, but don't drive too slow.

9 Performing Stunts On The Road

via Motorbike Writers

Stunts are reserved for a specific environment, and event organizers warn attendees of the potential danger of the stunts and that they could get hurt by sitting in the audience. When a biker performs stunts on the road, he's the only one who thinks he's cool. Drivers don't mind if you perform stunts at a deserted parking lot but don't want you to endanger their lives by performing tricks next to them on the road. Several things could go wrong that endangers everyone's lives.

8 Park In Car Bays

via Motorbike Writer

Parking is limited regardless of where you go, and drivers struggle to find parking in malls, the street and in front of grocery stores. When a driver has circled the parking lot several times and has not found parking, he gets annoyed. What makes the anger worse is when the driver sees motorbikes parked in a car bay.

Not all parking lots cater to motorbikes, so riders feel that they have to park in a car bay. The other option is to park the bike on a sidewalk but position it so it doesn't get in the pedestrians' way.

7 No Lights At Night

via Pavbca

One of the things I never understood about night driving is how some drivers can do it without switching on their headlights. I wonder if they forgot to switch on their lights or have night vision.

Driving at night with no headlights on doesn't only happen with cars, but also with bikes. Maybe some bikers feel that the highway lights are sufficient and that their bike headlights don't make a difference. Wrong. Headlights that are on make a huge difference. Drivers can spot you easier if you've got your headlights on to prevent accidents.

6  Passing Too Close

via About Motorcycle

Besides potentially hitting a car when riders weave in between vehicles or ride on the driver's blind spot before overtaking, they also pass too close to the car, which poses a problem that most bikers haven't considered. The last time you sneaked up on a family member at your home, you scared the living daylights out of them. That is the same thing that riders do to drivers when they pass too close.

Drivers need to maintain composure and handling of their cars at all times, but cannot do that when distracted.

5 Riding In Groups

via Al Jazeera

Fraternizing while you're enjoying your favorite activity is the ultimate joy. Getting together as a brotherhood and networking while on the road might be fun to you, but it's not fun to other road users. Drivers don't enjoy the traffic during weekdays, but what irritates more than anything else is dealing with traffic on a Sunday due to a group of riders who have congested the roads by riding in groups.

It seems that regardless of what bikers do, some drivers will be irritated. Drivers have to accept that riders are allowed to ride in groups and aren't being a deliberate nuisance despite drivers thinking otherwise.

4  Maladjusted Headlights

via Shutterstock

Bikers who are serious about considering drivers should do the following exercise. While riding at a reasonable distance behind a car at night, have a look where your dipped headlight beam cuts off relative to the car's rearview mirror. If it's below, then you're fine. If it's above, then your presence is irritating the driver because they have to tolerate the power of your headlights burning their brains, according to Visordown. If your headlight is flickering as you get on and off the gas, or the front goes over the bumps, that's worse.

Apart from the driver in front of you, image how irritating it is for oncoming traffic.

3  Not Paying Attention To The Road

via Ultimate Motorcycling

While drivers don't pay attention to the road by texting, riders do it by chatting with their passenger. Apart from stopping at a traffic light to chat to their passenger and not pull off on the green light, what infuriates drivers more is when riders pull up next to another biker and start chatting while being oblivious to the traffic lights.

There is a time and a place for everything, and socializing on the road is not the time or the place. If riders chat with each other while on the road, they should take notice of their surroundings.

2 Jumping Queues And Obstructing Pedestrians

via Wikipedia

This one grinds the pedestrian's gears, as well. Nobody likes to wait in line, but some bikers feel that they are special and don't want to wait until it's their turn. Bikers maneuver around vehicles to ensure that they are first at a traffic light.

Not only do bikers not wait their turn to get to the traffic light, but they also congregate on the pedestrian crossing, hindering pedestrians from crossing the road. If you are going to annoy cars to get to the front, don't annoy the pedestrians, as well.
