The Audi TT is a legendary 2-door sports car that has been on sale in the United States market since 1998. The sporty styling, frugal and torquey engines, and luxurious cabin have made it a perfect choice for winding back roads and road trips, and the TT managed to garner a separate fan base as well. With the launch of the 2022 Audi TT, which is part of the third generation of the lineup, Audi has managed to refine this sports car even further.

The 2022 Audi TT starts at $50,500 and comes in three trim configurations. A 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine resides under the hood of the TT, and it produces a reasonable 228 hp. The classy cabin design has been carried forward and the buyers can now opt for the bronze-themed appearance package. This optional package also offers larger 20" alloy wheels. Competing with the Toyota Supra and Porsche 718, here are 10 things you need to know about the 2022 Audi TT.

10 Youthful Design Still Looks The Part

The youthful design language of the MK3 Audi TT still looks the part even after close to 8 years of being in production. Even though the 2022 iteration comes with a new optional bronze-themed appearance package that offers sporty 20" alloy wheels, the design hasn't changed much in the past few years.

The 2022 Audi TT is a well-proportioned sports car and the impressive width and the hunkered-down appearance due to the low ground clearance make it stand out from the Lexus RC 300 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe. The LED headlights and taillights, clean side profile design, functional air vents, electric rear spoiler, and the optional S line competition package is offered too.

9 Graceful Cabin

Like the exterior design, the interior also looks sporty with many intricate elements coupled with premium materials used everywhere. The soft-touch dashboard and door cards are highlighted with the help of circular AC vents, a massive digital gauge cluster display that also functions as an infotainment screen, and aluminum accents.

The aluminum pedals uplift the cabin experience quite a bit, and the standard S sport seats with fine Nappa leather inserts on the seating surface with diamond stitching make the car a joy to drive. All the switchgear feels much more premium than any other rivals, and the driver-focussed nature of the cabin is another major selling point.

Irrespective of whether you choose the coupe or the roadster version of the Audi TT, you are going to feel the lack of space. Rear seats are just present to fill the brochure as they cannot accommodate adults with reasonable comfort. The legroom and headroom turned out to be one of the worst of the segment too.

Even though the 2022 Audi TT is called a 4-seater sports car, it can only accommodate two passengers with comfort. The driver and front seat passengers are going to have no problem while in this cabin as the overall space is better than expected. The wide armrest, multiple storage bins, and the cargo capacity of 12 cu ft are superb too.

7 Functional Infotainment System

Unlike the rivals that come with a traditional screen in the center of the dashboard, the 2022 Audi TT's infotainment screen is the same as the digital gauge cluster display. However, it offers all the functionalities of regular infotainment and all the modern features are onboard.

The standard features include Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM radio, Audi smartphone interface, voice recognition, and Bluetooth connectivity. The audio is handled by an impressive Bang & Olufsen audio system.

6 Not A Lot Of Driver-Assistance Features

The standard driver-assistance features such as front and rear parking sensors and blindspot monitoring system are not enough, especially when compared to the rivals that come with a plethora of standard and optional techs. This is also one of the biggest cons of getting the 2022 Audi TT.

Some of the important features such as forward-collision monitoring, automated emergency braking, driver condition monitoring, and lane departure warning are not even offered as an option with the Audi TT. Along with that, it hasn't been crash-tested by both the NHTSA and IIHS yet.

5 Good Braking Hardware

Being a driver's car, the 2022 Audi TT isn't going to disappoint the petrolheads out there in the braking department. Coming with a 4-wheel disc brake setup with 12.3" front rotors and 11.8" rear rotors, the Audi TT could do the 70-0 mph braking in less than 160 feet.

The front rotors are ventilated and that helps to shed the heat quite effectively. The other braking features such as ABS with EBD, brake assist, hill descent control, hill hold control, and electric parking brake are offered as standard too. However, the lack of automated emergency braking is disappointing.

4 Decent Fuel Efficiency

Fuel efficiency has always been a selling point of the MK3 Audi TT, and that ethos is carried forward unchanged. Coming with a frugal inline-4 mated to a well-calibrated dual-clutch automatic transmission, the 2022 TT could do 23 MPG in the city and 30 MPG on the highways.

The combined gas mileage of 26 MPG makes it more frugal than the Lexus RC 300 Coupe which offered a combined gas mileage of 24 MPG. However, both the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and BMW 4 Series Coupe offered a slightly better-combined gas mileage.

3 Torquey Inline-4

The 2022 Audi TT comes with the same 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine producing 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. This is a direct injection 16-valve DOHC engine and is one of the smoothest in the segment. It comes mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission, and all the trims get the legendary Quattro AWD drivetrains as well.

Launch the car from a standstill, and you are going to see the 60 mph mark in 5.2 seconds and the 100 mph mark in close to 11.5 seconds. The 2022 Audi TT was faster than the Lexus RC 300 Coupe and BMW 4 Series Coupe, even though both of them punched out superior performance figures than the Audi.

2 TTS Trim Gets A More Powerful Tune

If you find the regular 2022 Audi TT to be a bit lackluster in terms of outright performance, you could go for the more expensive TTS trim. Coming in both roadster and coupe avatars, the Audi TTS gets the same powerplant as the regular Audi TT, however, it comes with a more powerful tune producing 292 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque.

The transmission and drivetrain see no changes for the Audi TTS. When it comes to the acceleration figures, the TTS punched out a 0-60 mph time of just 4.2 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 12.8 seconds, making it the fastest of the segment.

1 Not A Lot Of Standard Features

The 2022 Audi TT does show its age when it comes to the features list as it misses out on many essential techs that are offered by its rivals. When it comes to the interior, it misses out on a center-stacked infotainment screen, Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated seats, and dual-zone climate control system.

Even the exterior also misses out on many features as standard. If you opt for the optional S line competition package priced at $2,100, Audi will include many of these tech and luxury features which improve the driving experience considerably. However, many driver-assistance techs can not even be opted as an option.
