The Toyota Supra joined the lineup after a long hiatus in its fifth generation avatar back in 2019 and has been one of the most important launches from the brand in the past decade. Being based on the same platform as the G29 BMW Z4, the Toyota Supra is a two-door sports car that managed to impress the gearheads out there due to the superb performance and driving dynamics without compromising one bit on the luxury front. With the launch of the 2022 Toyota Supra, Toyota has added several upgrades and features to its flagship sports car.

Launched at a base MSRP of $43,540, the 2022 Supra comes with an all-new A91-CF limited edition trim which gets the carbon fiber kit, many exterior updates, and different interior color combinations. There are also some feature upgrades to the interior and infotainment system as well. Competing with the likes of the Porsche 718 Cayman, Audi TT, and Ford Mustang, here are 10 things you need to know before buying the 2022 Toyota Supra.

If you want to experience the best of what this sports car can do, get the 2022 Toyota Supra with the coveted 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 engine that produces 382 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque. The performance numbers turned out to be one of the best of the segment and that translated to the best in class 0-60 mph time of 3.8 seconds.

The in-gear acceleration is superb and the Supra with the inline-6 engine can hit the quarter-mile mark in 12.1 seconds as well. This engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters too. However, the 3.0-liter engine is about $8,000 more expensive than the 2.0-liter engine-equipped trims.

9 Pretty Luxurious On The Inside

Like the outgoing model years of the Toyota Supra, the interior doesn't feel cheap and tacky. Being built on the same platform as the Z4, the buyers are going to appreciate the soft-touch plastics and leather trims on the inside, making it feel very opulent for the price and segment it comes in.

The interior is also very driver-focused, similar to the older generation, and we loved the chunky steering wrapped in leather, the beautiful black Alcantara and leather upholstery, and the premium-feeling switchgear. The infotainment and digital gauge cluster are integrated neatly, and the cabin has an airy feeling to it, even with the full-black cabin.

8 Sleek And Youthful Styling

Even though some might find the 2022 Toyota Supra to be a bit quirky, especially when compared to the older fourth-generation avatar, there is no denying the fact that it is one of the most radical and striking sports cars currently on sale. The front end is going to garner a second glance with its LED headlights with LED DRLs, multiple air vents, and sporty skirting.

The side profile showcases the beautifully integrated air vents and the stunning 19" forged alloy wheels. The sloping roofline, LED taillights, lip spoiler, and air diffuser adds to the sporty nature as well. The brand new A91-CF trim, which is offered for an MSRP of $63,280, offers different 19" alloy wheels and carbon fiber spoiler, splitter, front canards, side rockers, and rear canards, all of which make it look more pronounced and purposeful.

7 All The Driver-Assistance Features Are Standard

Being a Toyota, the 2022 Supra comes loaded with many techs and features in terms of safety. This is also one of the major factors that make the Supra quite a lot more value for money than the immediate rivals of the segment. The basic safety features like ABS, traction control, stability control, tire pressure monitoring system, and airbags are standard.

The driver-assistance techs included are automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, and automatic high beams. However, if you want even more driver-assistance techs, you'd need to opt for the safety & technology package which is offered for an MSRP of $3,155.

6 A Turbocharged 4-Banger Is Also Offered

If you want a perfect daily driver that does well in terms of gas mileage and has enough pep for a quick overtake, the 2022 Toyota Supra with the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine fits the bill perfectly. This engine comes with a twin-scroll turbo and RWD drivetrain and produces 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.

The crisp mid-range is going to make the drivers happy, and the 8-speed automatic transmission is the same ZF-sourced unit that does its duty in many of the other offerings from the BMW lineup. The 0-60 mph comes in 4.7 seconds, making it slightly faster than the BMW Z4. It is also faster than the Audi TT, which does the 0-60 mph run in 5.2 seconds.

5 Classy Looking Cabin

The high-quality and premium feeling cabin of the 2022 Supra is also complimented with a design that goes well with the sporty personality of the ride. Get into the cabin, and you are not going to get the typical Toyota design. The straightforward dashboard and door card design are complimented well with silver accents and leather trims.

The black color of the cabin for the lower trims and the beautiful black and red color combination for the A91-CF trim looks stunning. We also loved the aluminum pedals, sports seats with impressive side bolstering, Alcantara elements on the cabin, and the perfect positioning of all the controls.

4 Cramped Interior

This two-seater sports car is not going to be something that ticks all the boxes for a comfortable daily driver and that is majorly due to the restricted cabin space on offer. Getting in and out of the Supra is a bit of a task, with the ground clearance and height being much lower than the Audi TT and Ford Mustang.

The taller folks are also going to be disappointed with the underwhelming headroom and legroom, making the cabin feel very cramped. However, the cabin offers a decent number of storage spaces and the wide armrest is a plus point. The glove box is reasonably deep too. But the cargo capacity of 10 cu ft is lower than the Ford Mustang with 13.5 cu ft of space.

3 Gets The Latest iDrive Infotainment From BMW

The 8.8" touchscreen infotainment system that comes stacked to the center of the dashboard is a reskinned version of the iDrive infotainment that is found in the BMW Z4. There is also a digital gauge cluster on offer. The infotainment is pretty feature-packed too.

The standard features include Apple CarPlay, navigation, a 10-speaker audio system, SiriusXM radio, steering-mounted audio controls, and Bluetooth connectivity. However, Android Auto is still not offered even as an option and that is a huge miss. If you are an audiophile, you can also have the optional 12-speaker JBL audio system.

2 Surprising Fuel Efficiency

The turbocharged inline-4 engine under the hood of the base trim gives out an incredible fuel efficiency figure for a sports car. The 2022 Supra does 25 MPG in the city and 32 MPG on the highways, making it the most fuel-efficient offering of the segment. However, the 13.7-gallon fuel tank capacity is the lowest of the lot.

However, the more powerful inline-6 engine offered a lower fuel efficiency rating of 22 MPG in the city and 30 MPG on the highway. Even that is also more efficient than the similarly powerful monikers like the Camaro and M2.

1 Top-Notch Braking Hardware

The brakes of the 2022 Toyota Supra are more than adequate to stop it from high speeds and that is mainly due to the impressive 4-wheel disc brake setup with 13" front and rear rotors and a host of braking features like brake assist, hill hold control, ABS with EBD, and electric parking brake.

The 70-0 mph comes in just 152 feet and that comes after the 146 feet of braking distance of the Porsche Cayman GTS. Both the Chevrolet Camaro and Audi TT did the same braking test at a slightly higher distance.
