The Infiniti Q60 is a compact luxury coupe that has been in continuous production since early 2014. In the last eight years of production, it has received many subtle changes, making it quite an appealing and value for money proposition of the segment. It is also the only offering of the same segment and price bracket to come with the smooth and punchy twin-turbo V6 motor. With the arrival of the 2022 Infiniti Q60, all of these are taken forward, with the only change being the addition of wireless Apple CarPlay.

Launched for a base MSRP of $41,750, the 2022 Infiniti Q60 is an excellent grand tourer and the V6 motor under the hood plays a major part in that. The comfortable suspension setup, sure-footed braking performance, and timeless exterior design are some of the other USPs of this car. This also helps the Q60 to still retain the charm even after many years. With the rising competition from the likes of the Audi A4, BMW 4-Series, and Lexus RC 350, here are 10 things you need to know before getting the 2022 Infiniti Q60.

10 Comes With A Twin-Turbo V6

via Car and Driver

The 3-liter twin-turbo DOHC V6 motor of the outgoing model year is offered with this 2022 iteration and receives no major changes. As a result, the car feels similar in terms of driving experience as well. This motor produces 300 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque and comes mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission which gets manual mode and the downshift rev-matching, both of which make the drive enjoyable.

This V6 motor is carried forward from the initial 2014 model year and even though it is a bit old in comparison to the more modern motors offered with the segment rivals like the BMW 430i and the Audi A5, it is still more powerful than both. It is also the cheapest offering of the segment that comes with a V6 motor, and that makes the Q60 a very compelling option.

9 Decent In Terms Of Acceleration

If you expect the 2022 Infiniti Q60 to light the racetracks on fire, then you would be wrong. Even with a powerful twin-turbo V6 motor under the hood that produces one of the highest horsepower and torque ratings of the segment, the acceleration is not going to blow anyone away. Put the foot down and the transmission takes its own sweet time for a downshift. The top-end feels a bit restricted too.

This is mainly due to the heavy curb weight of 3,747 lbs and a slow 7-speed torque converter automatic transmission, both of which make it slightly underwhelming to drive. However, the 0-60 mph time of 5.5 seconds and the quarter-mile time of 13.3 seconds is pretty decent when compared to the inline-4 powered rivals.

8 Pretty Good Value For Money

via TestDriveNow.com

Offered for a base price of just $41,750, the 2022 Infiniti Q60 is the only offering in the segment that comes with a twin-turbo V6 motor. That makes it very relevant even after being in production for more than seven years. Apart from that, it is also the cheapest of the lot, offering all the bells and whistles even with the base Pure trim.

The Pure trim comes with many standard features like wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, leather upholstery, and a few more relevant features. Both the Luxe and Red Sport 400 trims are value-for-money too, with the latter being powered by the same motor producing a higher tune of 400 hp. All of these make it very relevant even in this day and age.

7 Mediocre Gas Mileage

Being the only car in the segment with a V6 motor, the gas mileage is pretty mediocre, especially in comparison to the frugal offerings like the Audi A5 and BMW 430i. The Infiniti Q60 managed to give out a city gas mileage of 19 mpg and a highway gas mileage of 28 mpg . Combined gas mileage of 22 MPG makes it the worst of the segment, placing it below the Lexus RC350, which offers a combined gas mileage of 23 mpg.

With a fuel tank capacity of 20 gallons, the 2022 Infiniti Q60 could do 560 miles on the highways, which makes it the best luxury coupe for road trips. In comparison, the BMW 430i has 520 miles of highway range as has the Audi A5. If you opt for the AWD variant of the Q60, the highway gas mileage reduces by 1 mpg. The Red Sport 400 trim, which is the most powerful trim of the lot, managed to do 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.

6 Exterior Looks Elegant

The design of the 2022 Infiniti Q60 sees no changes from the outgoing model years. Being in production for quite a long time, this luxury coupe still looks the part, and that is what makes it a great option even to this day. The car can be had in three color palettes, and there are a few optional packages and extras that help the car to stand out quite well.

The front end gets the quintessential blacked-out honeycomb grille with the neat Infiniti logo, LED headlights with LED DRLs, and a small air dam. The masculine hood, sharp character line that goes all the way from the front fender to the rear quarter, and the blacked-out side mirrors with integrated LED indicators to look neat too. The rear is highlighted by the dual exhaust tips, LED taillights, and coupe-like design.

5 Interior Feels Very Dated

Step into the cabin of the 2022 Infiniti Q60 and you would be taken back to the previous decade. This interior hasn't stood the test of time, especially in terms of design, and that makes it not as appealing as some of the modern rivals. The dashboard design isn't going to excite anyone, even with its great material quality and other contrastive elements.

The steering feels quite big, especially in comparison to the sporty offerings like the BMW 430i and the Audi A5, and the center console's gloss black elements aren't the most appealing. However, when it comes to the interior quality and features on offer as standard, the 2022 Infiniti Q60 does hold a candle to the more modern rivals of the segment.

4 Not A Drivers' Car

Even with an impressive motor under the hood that is quite punchy and refined, this is far from a driver's car. The main reason for that is the suspension system, which is tuned more for comfort rather than fun. The 2022 Infiniti Q60 gets double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension with coil springs and anti-roll bars, similar to the competitors.

However, the soft tuning is what makes it an impressive grand tourer rather than a sports coupe. The car feels a bit sloppy around corners, with reasonably high understeer at the limits. The steering feels very artificial and offers a mediocre feel and feedback, but it is direct. All of these contribute to a car that is made more for the open highways rather than the back roads.

3 Infotainment System Is Not The Most Refined

The dual touchscreen display comes as standard with all the trims of the 2022 Infiniti Q60 and looks impressive at first glance. However, it is nowhere as polished or smooth as the iDrive or MMI interface of the BMW and Audi. The upper screen can be controlled with the help of the rotary dial stuck on the center console, and that is a boon for the driver.

Apart from that, it also comes with all the necessary features like wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, SiriusXM radio, navigation, Bluetooth, and many more. The biggest gripe with this infotainment system is due to the lackluster interface, which feels a bit clunky and unpolished. There were quite a lot of stutters and the learning curve is higher too.

2 A Comfortable Cruiser

The soft and cushy suspension system offered with the 2022 Infiniti Q60 is made for long-distance cruising, and the car feels much more comfortable than the Bimmer and Audi. Even with a slightly softer setup, there is no major vertical movement at higher speeds, and what makes it even better is the excellent seats, which are very wide and gets more than adequate cushioning.

When it comes to slow-speed driving, the comfortable suspension system comes to the rescue. All the irregularities of the roads are absorbed with ease and the car never gets unsettled. There is no major noise from the suspension, even when conquering some of the biggest potholes out there. The front and rear seat occupants are also going to appreciate the excellent interior space on offer too.

1 Brakes Provide A Lot Of Confidence

Coming with no major changes to the braking hardware, the same sure-footed braking performance remains unchanged with the 2022 Infiniti Q60 as well. The front end gets the 14" rotors and the rear gets 13.8" rotors. All the rotors are ventilated and the Q60 also comes with a host of braking features like ABS, brake assist, and hill hold control.

Overall, the braking performance was impressive, with excellent initial bite and progression. Slam the foot on the brake pedal from 60 mph, and you would be impressed with how poised and stable this luxury coupe is. The 60-0 mph braking distance of 121 feet is pretty decent, too, even though both the 430i and the A5 did it in sub 120 feet.
