As one of the biggest names in the racing game genre, Gran Turismo will thankfully be seeing its latest entry later this year. Fans of the series and newcomers alike will be able to experience one of the finest examples of driving simulators we're ever likely to see.

With a unique and varied tracklist, as well as a gigantic array of cars available, this is shaping up to be a return to form for this famous old series, all whilst adding some innovative new features and game modes along the way. Here are 10 Things We Just Learned About Gran Turismo 7.

As the full fat latest entry into the Gran Turismo series, this latest game should hold nothing back as far as game modes are concerned.

Over recent years, we've seen a number of more watered-down, taster entries in the series like Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and Gran Turismo Sport. These didn't offer the game modes fans were hoping for, but in GT 7, we'll see a return of the famous license testing mode, a full in-depth career mode, online racing series, and even new modes like the GT Café, something we'll discuss in more depth later.

9 A Return Of Customization

Fans have long awaited some more in-depth customization with the Gran Turismo franchise, something we'll thankfully see more of in the latest entry.

Customization in past games has been mostly hit-and-miss, some games had it in small amounts, and some didn't have it at all. However, we've recently found that GT 7 will feature a full livery editor, performance parts, and even customizable aero parts like spoilers and wide-body kits. The former is particularly interesting as players can even change specific details with parts like spoilers, by choosing the height and even the end plates.

8 The GT Café

As one of the more innovative series we've ever seen from the racing game genre as a whole, Gran Turismo has launched a new feature, something which will spice proceedings up a little.

The GT Café is pretty much exclusively for the car nerds and those who have a fascination with the motoring industry as a whole. The mode will allow players to drive culturally significant vehicles and has the user collect cars whilst learning a fairly in-depth history of that particular vehicle. Some confirmed cars in this mode are the classic Beetle, the original Mini Cooper S, and even the classically Japanese 1991 Honda Beat Kei car.

7 Track List

The tracklist is one area where the Gran Turismo series has shone as a whole when compared to its direct competitors.

The variation of available circuits is something that has made the series one of the best in the game. Although we don't have the full list as of yet, classics like Mount Panorama, Fuji, Suzuka, and the Nürburgring will of course feature. The GT series is also famed for its more unique track selection and tracks like the Tokyo Expressway and the Special Stage Route X, for top speed and acceleration runs, will also be making their return.

6 Car List

Although it's still early, we have found out recently a rough number of total vehicles within the game. A rumored 400 cars will be available in some shape or form within GT 7, whether they are accessed by the in-game dealership, challenges, or even the used car dealership.

Unlike games like Forza Horizon and Need For Speed, Gran Turismo is a simulator, so don't expect too many outrageous cars and vehicles like buggies and racing trucks, however, do expect some vintage classics, plenty of modern supercars, classic JDM sports cars, and of course some high spec GT cars, like seen in the images above.

5 A Dynamic Weather System

As the flagship racing game for the new Sony console and PlayStation as a whole, some intense graphic and technical aspects will be at the heart of, surely one of the best-looking and feeling racing games of this console generation.

A new and innovative dynamic weather system will see circuits and races change as time progresses, adding a touch of simulation and realism sure to make players truly enamored with racing. This is something that will take center stage in particularly longer races, as the track will look and feel much different when dry compared to when it's raining heavily. This even extends to a dynamic cloud system, which will be available on all tracks, however, the weather system will vary in its intensity depending on the circuit.

4 Campaign Mode Features

A classic old-school campaign mode will be at the heart of Gran Turismo 7, this is great news for past fans. Some previous Gran Turismo entries didn't even have a career mode at all, so when it was announced that GT 7 will have a fully fleshed-out career game mode, fans of the game collectively breathed a sigh of relief.

As expected, players will start out in a small, cheap hatchback or sports car and will have to race and earn their way to more expensive and luxurious cars along the way. This older method of progression is likely to keep players hooked, whilst adding some truly legendary cars and racing series to aim for down the line.

3 The Return Of Used Cars

This is a feature longtime fans were hoping would make its long-awaited return. The used car dealership provides a much more affordable and realistic way to earn vehicles.

This area will be full of some unique cars only accessible in this section of the game, and will also make the GT Service features like oil changes, and car washes make a lot more sense. This area will be updated daily, and this means there is a high possibility that your dream car is only round the corner.

2 Scapes And Photo mode

Anyone who has spent long enough in some more recent GT games will know the importance of scapes and photo mode.

For those unaware, the scapes are real-life areas in which the team behind the game have taken photographs of, in order to allow players to have an interesting and life-like background to their car within menus and for the in-game photomode. In the last GT game entry, there were around 1,200 scapes from 23 countries, in GT 7, this number has risen to an insane 2,568 scapes from a massive 60 countries. That's true dedication.

Most fans and potential newcomers are probably itching to experience the latest, long-awaited entry in this series, but we still have some waiting to do for now. It's claimed that the worldwide release date for Gran Turismo 7 is the 22nd of March.

However, be aware that there is a possibility things could change in this domain, after all, the game was initially scheduled for 2021, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, development was pushed back slightly. Having said this, it's still on the side of unlikely that this will be the case as the release date is only a matter of weeks away, so it's fairly safe to assume we'll see it then. For those interested, GT 7 will be released on both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5 as a Sony exclusive.
