Polestar has been known to create some dynamic and modern electric vehicles. The 402-hp Polestar 2 managed to break records for the brand, being the most popular vehicle in its history. Polestar has a unique agreement with Volvo, sharing more than just a corporate relationship.
This led to both technology and research being shared between the two brands. This led to the Precept concept being developed to outline the future ambitions of the all-electric brand. The Polestar 5 is set to be released in 2024, with Polestar announcing further details on what their new car will be.
Interested in learning more about the Polestar 5? You’re in the right place. Here are 10 things we just learned about the upcoming Polestar 5.
10 Futuristic Design
The new Polestar 5 will come with a truly unique design. While many manufacturers do go all-out on the concept vehicles, Polestar has managed to create a road-going version that looks almost identical to the concept.
The new Polestar 5 looks sleek and modern, with a unique rear end that looks much like the concept Tesla Cybertruck. The interior of the Polestar 5 is even better, with large digital displays and sustainable materials making up the entirety of the cabin.
9 884 HP Powertrain
While the older Polestar 2 was impressive with its long-range 402 HP powertrain, Polestar wishes to extend this even further to 884 HP in the new Polestar 5. The new model is expected to come with two electric motors, one on each end of the drivetrain.
This is set to bridge the gap between Polestar and other leading EVs such as the Porsche Taycan and the Tesla Model S. With 884 HP, the acceleration and performance of the Polestar 5 will be something to look out for.
8 All-Wheel-Drive
The Polestar 5 comes with an all-wheel drive. This joins some of the other premium electric vehicles in the industry. This all-wheel-drive system comes directly from Volvo, making it one of the safest and most reliable systems on the road today.
The Polestar 5 will also come with torque vectoring and regenerative braking. This means that active breaking will not just slow down the car but also charge the battery pack. This is a useful feature as it helps extend the range of the EV.
7 300-Mile Range
The Polestar 5 is expected to come with 300 miles of range. This is slightly less than some of its competitors but is still enough for daily use. The Polestar is still incredibly efficient, using a 103-kWh battery to power its electric powertrain.
The Polestar 5 is also rumored to come with fast charging capabilities. This means that it will be able to charge significantly faster than most other EVs. While the exact speeds are not known right now, you can expect a 30-minute charge to add around 150 miles of range to the EV.
6 Built With Sustainable Materials
The Polestar remains committed to sustainability with its interior as well. This means that the new Polestar 5 comes with sustainable materials throughout the cabin, including the seats, headlining, and even the veneer.
Polestar takes this further than any other car brand as it uses recycled materials such as flax, plastic bottles, and cork. While the Polestar 5 is sustainably built, you will never be able to notice. The finish and design of the interior are as good as it gets, miles ahead of Tesla.
5 Infotainment System
The Polestar 5 is set to come with two massive digital displays. The first is a 12.5-inch digital dash and the second is a larger 15-inch infotainment system. Both of these screens are crystal clear and make the entire interior look sleek and modern.
The modern infotainment system comes with everything you may ever need. This system is Android-based, making it one of the most advanced systems in any car. While many do compare this to Tesla, the Android integration allows the Polestar to do more than any other system on the road today.
4 Packed With Safety Features
The Precept concept car highlighted a few new safety features for future Polestar models. This includes roof-mounted sensors that hint at self-driving capabilities shortly. While these features have not been announced yet, the Polestar 5 is set to come with dynamic cruise control and lane-keep assist.
The Polestar 5 also comes with the same safety features you may know about from Volvo. This includes automated emergency braking and pedestrian detection. The Polestar 5 also has a very low center of gravity. This is due to the large battery pack located along the floor of the car.
3 Shared Technology With Volvo
It’s no secret that Polestar is a division of Volvo. While the two brands do have their own identities, the two do share quite a bit of technology. This is most evident in the software and safety categories.
The sensor systems along with the infotainment system come directly from Volvo. This system is built into the design of the car, making the Polestar one of the safest cars money can buy. Volvo has long been known as a safety leader, Polestar is now right alongside it.
2 Rear View Cameras
Just like the Audi eTron, the Polestar 5 comes with rearview cameras. This is not to be confused with the camera system to help you reverse the car as these cameras are designed to replace the side mirrors. The car still has side mirror panels, but they are much slimmer to hold only a camera.
This system will capture what’s behind you in real-time and display it inside the cabin. This is actually more accurate than side mirrors as you won’t need to worry about rain or glare getting in the way. The Polestar also comes with other cameras and sensors around the car including a full 360-degree system that will let you see your surroundings from above.
1 Industry-Leading Warranty
While the standard warranty from Polestar may change before the release of the Polestar 5, the company does have one of the best maintenance plans in the industry. As a division of Volvo, Polestar customers can expect the same level of care and support.
Polestar customers can expect their new car to come with a limited warranty that covers four years or 50,000 miles. However, the electrical components in the car are covered for eight years or 100,000 miles. This is noteworthy as these modern EVs are much more complicated and expensive to repair yourself. Having a comprehensive warranty can make the cost of ownership much more attractive compared to other cars on the market.
