Ride-sharing and car rental companies are trying their best to gain momentum again and reclaim what they have lost over the past year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. For this reason, Free2Move, a car-sharing and rental service operated by what was PSA Group, and is now Stellantis, announced that a new electric vehicle from its European fleet is arriving in the United States. But not for sale, as the vehicle is headed to the Free2Move fleet in Washington DC, where they first launched back in 2018.

Citroen Ami Was Shown On LinkedIn

This was announced on the company's LinkedIn page. Only the silhouette of the car was shown there. But it is easy to guess that this is the Citroen Ami, an electric car with two seats developed by the French automaker in 2020.

The Citroen Ami, built at the Stellantis assembly plant in Morocco, was used by Free2Move in Europe, and will now be added to the car-sharing and car rental company's DC fleet, which currently consists of the Chevy Cruze and Equinox. The decision to release the Citroen Ami is not official as the LinkedIn post is a just teaser without any clear description of its future plans.

Citroen Ami Specification And Price

It should be noted that most likely, the same rules will apply to the rental of the new car as for the previous two models. Each ride using Free2Move cars includes a 500-mile cap with a surcharge of $ 0.45 per mile. In addition, it is possible to rent it for no longer than seven days at a cost of $350, or about $50 per day.

Legally, Citroen Ami is a light ATV; a designation that allows it to be driven by those as young as 14-years old in some countries. It is likely however, that Free2Move will limit Ami rentals to adults. The company is positioning Ami primarily as an alternative to scooters, bicycles, and public transport, therefore, the indoor cabin and the presence of a heater are mentioned among the main advantages. But the downside is hard performance limitations. The Citroen Ami has an electric motor with a power of only 6 kW (8.2 Hp), the maximum permissible weight without traction battery is 935 pounds, and the maximum speed is 28 mph.

Free2Move is currently present in Washington, Paris, Madrid, and Lisbon only, though it will soon be set up shop in Portland, Oregon.
