The Jaguar XJ6 from 1970 might not necessarily be a car you associate with high-performance. Jaguar as a whole might not be a brand you associate with drag racing. Built as a full-size luxury car between 1968 and 1992, you certainly wouldn’t associate the XJ6 with 1,000 hp. Unless it's this Jaguar you are thinking of. Shawn Davis and the AutotopiaLA team have been to meet owner John and check out his incredible 1970 XJ6 that has a 540 ci V8 monster in it that does indeed produce 1,000 hp.

Dart Motor Sets Up This Jaguar Beautifully

The motor is specifically a Dart Motor 540, with custom heads and a custom cam, with a four-speed automatic gearbox. It gets even more interesting with the carburetor, which is a Pro Systems 1050 that is set up for nitrous 300 shot! And when Shawn was talking to John, the nitrous was fully hooked up and ready to go. That certainly took Shawn’s breath away. The Jaguar is used almost as a daily driver and is taken down the 1/4 a lot, with John’s best time being a 9.85 second run.

Why Was A Jaguar Turned Into A Drag Car?

via YouTube

Why did John choose a Jaguar to turn into a drag car? It's something Shawn couldn’t wrap his head around. It was all about taking John and others out of their comfort zone, and it has been effectively turned into a Chevy, taking effectively Grandpa’s four-door Jag and turning it into an insane muscle monster. Of course, any AutotopiaLA showcase wouldn’t be complete without a look at the car on the road, and Shawn steps into the passenger seat to take it for a ride.

Shawn Is Blown Away By the Power Of This Jaguar

via YouTube

While Shawn is blown away by a lot of the cars he rides in, this is certainly near the top of the list of those. He comments on how it grabs and pulls so hard, and that it has really been set up to drive despite being driven quite softly. The footage shot by Shawn’s crew of the car driving past really is blink and you miss it kind of shots. Out of all the drag racers out there, this Jaguar must be one of the most unique and most luxurious.
