Are you on the lookout for a good car investment? Well, we might just have something for you. This 1957 Willys Jeep FC150 will come up at the Mecum Indiana State Fairgrounds auction in Indianapolis. It is quite interesting how this model seems to be in higher demand in the present than it was during its time, probably because for those times this automotive was a rather unusual apparition on the roads. But collectors grew quite fond of these Jeeps and take great pride in their possessions.

In fact, a small but passionate community has formed around these pickups; enthusiasts are swapping parts, history sourcebooks, personal knowledge and experience with anyone who is interested. This Willys Jeep FC150 is a prime example of why this following came to be.

History Of The Willys Jeep FC-150

The car was produced by Willys Motors, who made a name for themselves by designing and producing military Jeeps during World War II. Following the end of the war, they have turned to contribute to the civilian market. One such contribution was the 1957 Willys Jeep FC150, which was presented in December 1956 as a model for the year to come. Production went on for nine years, from 1956 to 1965.

In case you were wondering, the “FC” is derived from “Forward Control”, since the engine is to be found behind the front seats. The strange location of the engine was due to the cab being forwarded to balance out the 6-foot rear pickup bed, on account of the small wheelbase. But a CJ-5 chassis and 4-cylinder Hurricane engine made this apparently innocuous creature roar. Although short and stout, this Jeep could be augmented with a colorful variety of options, like wrecker hooks and utility boxes. This in turn gave the vehicle amazing versatility and could be used in the public service section as well, serving as fire trucks or ambulances.

Now, this car is not just any Willys Jeep FC 150. It is a collector’s gem. In 2013 the concourse restoration was finalized, bringing the vehicle to top shape but also in accordance with the original model. Also, you should be glad to hear the mileage: approximately 200 miles have been added since the restoration, bringing the total up to 40,345 miles. This is in 60 years.

If its pristine condition is not enough, here is a bonus. The seller also includes in the package manuals, original advertisement brochures, and show posters. Besides the required paperwork, the new owner will have in his or her possession not only the complete required paperwork but also photos documenting the restoration process.

Stunning Looks

The outside of the car is coated in bold turquoise hugged by white for a minty fresh look. While black is sprinkled here and there to spice things up. These same colors seep into the inside, creating a cohesive design. The detailing and harmonious aesthetics show that there was a lot of care and thought put into its restoration.

Enthusiasts will be thrilled to spot original writing on the car. The back showcases “Jeep Forward Control” next to “4 Wheel Drive”, while in the proximity of the side door you can find the original FC 150 insignia.

Although small, this pickup truck is quite strong and is considered a “true” half-ton pickup. Also, a combination of size and engineering makes it easy to maneuver. The standard 4-wheel drive and 81-inch wheelbase give the FC-150 an edge over its competition.

Fierce Drive

The FC 150 was equipped with some pretty unique features for that time. The CJ-5 chassis foundation stone is certainly a noteworthy component. While the vehicle is powered by a fierce CJ’s 4-cylinder, 72 HP F-head Hurricane engine. Don’t let the cute exterior induce you in error, there is muscle underneath that turquoise hood.

There were a lot of options available for the original models, during their production years, and this particular car has a beautiful display of a variety of options. The car features a Warn “All-Range” overdrive that serves to augment the standard 3-speed manual transmission.

Worth Every Penny

It has been decades since the production of the Willys Jeep FC150 ceased, and there were not that many made, to begin with. So, to stumble upon a car that is not only functional but restored to its original glory is an awesome find. While it might not have been highly coveted back in its days, this car has risen to stardom. So how much will the pickup go for? Nobody knows as of yet. But there is already some buzz around the car, so it is likely that it will not go easy.

On account of the Covid-19 pandemic, the auction has been pushed back a couple of times from the original period in March. Currently, it should all play out on 10-18 July, but if you are interested in bidding, keep an eye on the page, in case any other changes occur.
