The Dodge Charger 500 is an American thoroughbred meant to compete on the track. While it ultimately failed to dominate races, the Charger 500 boasts high-performance specs for some true muscle. In case you’re looking to purchase one, here is a 1970 Dodge Charger 500 currently on sale on eBay.

The dominance of the Ford Torino Talladega in the NASCAR series in the 1960s prompted Chrysler to build the Dodge Charger 500. To qualify the Charger as a stock for NASCAR, Chrysler had to build and sell at least 500 of them. The 1969 Charger 500 was a limited edition model, and the 1970 and 1971 models were a trim package slotted between the standard Charger and the R/T.

Nevertheless, this 1970 Charger 500 on sale on eBay is an incredible find, as it is completely unrestored, although its previous owners had tinkered with some elements. This two-door fastback coupe comes equipped with a 318 cubic inch V8 engine that could provide up to 230 hp of output. The previous owner removed the A/C components (stored) to squeeze more horsepower out of the 318 cubic inch small block V8.

It’s not known when the original owner bought this Charger 500 new, but the second owner acquired it when he was 16 (no year provided), when the car had just received a fresh paint job. The second owner equipped aftermarket turbine style wheels, blacked out the grille and taillight bezel, and added SE badges to the C-pillar on the vinyl top. The second owner also repainted the Charger 500 in DY3 Cream in 1981, putting in a small patch to the rear quarter panels. This painted area is now showing some blistering.

The car changed hands in 2021, but previous owners have properly maintained this Charger 500. This is evident on the interior, which has remained original with its black and charcoal theme (bucket seats and console). There are some issues though, including the driver’s door panel that has a seam popped on the armrest.

Since the previous owner hid this 1970 Dodge Charger 500 inside the garage, the car never sat outside or saw rain. This is the reason its black vinyl top remains in excellent condition. The future buyer won’t have to worry about its running condition, as it still starts easily and is “a blast to drive.” It returns up to 22 mpg on the highway and 15 mpg around town.
