The history of the automobile includes some very strange vehicles that should probably never have seen the light of day. Who remembers the Ferrari 250 GT "Breadvan" that was built with a strange rear end intended to produce better aerodynamics? Even if the 250 GTO it was designed to beat remains the most valuable car on the planet, the Breadvan just looks strange. But perhaps to some fans, it's absolutely gorgeous—which would explain a handful of custom cars such as this C3 Corvette conversion that just popped up on eBay last week and now, this 1966 Ford Mustang project currently listed on Craigslist in California.

Room For The Whole Fam

As perhaps might be expected for a project that shows very little in the way of follow-through, the listing is quite sparse on details. Namely, the question of "why?" isn't ever answered. But in a few low-resolution pictures, it's clear someone spent a lot of time putting this car together, even if they then decided to let it sit—possibly for years—after fabricating the station-wagon rear end.

Under The Hood

Under the hood, the claimed "High Performance" small-block reportedly runs "good" thanks to what looks like Cobra cylinder heads, an Edelbrock air cleaner, a four-barrel carburetor, headers, and dual exhaust. The interior of the engine bay looks to have received painted flames to match the hood, though the rest of the exterior clearly "needs paint" as the ad stipulates.

At Least The Dash Looks Smooth

On the interior, the dashboard actually appears to be crack-free (more photos would always be better) and the steering wheel and shifter could very well prove themselves as legitimate Shelby units. Otherwise, tears in the leather, exposed wiring, and what looks like rust near the door hinges should be (further) signs for concern. The current ask of $8,900 could be a bit of a stretch, though the old saying about one man's trash could apply here. The two most hilarious details that simply can't go ignored are the fact that the title status indicates a lien still out on the car, plus the question of whether the posed front wheel is included in the sale.
