Lincoln, currently owned by Ford, is possibly one of the greatest American car companies ever created. They didn’t get everything right, but they did build some truly great cars. Think of the Continental, for example, possibly the most widely recognized cars the company ever built. In its present guise, it has been 100 years since the company came into being, and that certainly is a milestone that calls for some celebrations. But how exactly do you go about celebrating that fact.

Well, one person who seems to have known how to do that is Abimelec Arellano. Arellano is one of the most talented and brilliant digital car renderers there is. He regularly posts his work on his Instagram page, and can create anything from wide body muscle cars to souped up and tuned European classics. Given how important this year is for Lincoln, he decided to celebrate the anniversary. This is a Continental rendering that Arellano has crafted, creating one of the best pieces of work that the renderer has produced. It is a great tribute to a great company, and one that deserves our time and attention.

A Brief History Of Lincoln

We should probably have a brief look at the history of Lincoln first. The company was founded as a private entity back in 1917, but in its current guise it came into being in 1922 when it was acquired by Ford. The company was named after Abraham Lincoln, and Ford are still the parent company of Lincoln to this very day. The company was originally founded by Henry M. Leland. Some of the earliest Lincoln’s are cars such as the Model L sedans, and then there is the very recognizable and iconic Lincoln-Zephyr, A car that typified the 1930s thanks to its streamlined styling.

Lincoln does of course still produce cars today, but it is in a much more low-key state. The brand is now the luxury division of Ford, and has given us cars recently such as the modern Continental, the MKX and the Corsair plus the Navigator. Lincoln for many years was part of the Lincoln-Mercury Division, before Mercury was closed back in 2010. The brand still has the four-point star emblem that it became famous for, and is derived from the badge that the 1956 Continental Mark II had. Now, let's take a look at Arellano’s epic rendering.

A Truly Spectacular Continental Rendering

The best way to describe this rendering is that it is a work of art. Arellano has taken a 1974 Continental, his favorite body style of the model, and a time when, as he puts it, luxury was measured in aches and chrome. The first thing to note is that this car is slammed to the ground. In quite a big way, too. The side profiles of the car do show how miniscule the ground clearance is. There is more clearance at the front and rear, but the middle of the car would not take on speed humps very well.

The front though shows us something very cool. Under the hood, is a very different engine. Arellano’s custom Continental now has a Shelby GT500 V8 powering the car, which will check out 700+ hp. That is certainly more than the Continental will have ever seen in its life before, and will give the car quite the boost in performance. The close up of the engine reveals the Shelby Cobra on the engine itself, something that many of us no doubt never expected to see on a Continental and adding a great touch of restomod to the car.

There is more that helps to make this a truly epic restomodded Continental. Arellano has managed to preserve the classic lines of the car, but has turned it into the ultimate low-rider with how low it sits to the ground. He has though managed to retain the epic looking wheels that the Continental is famous for, as indeed were a lot of Lincolns. At the rear, it looks like we now have some modern LED taillights that really do make this car stand out from the crowd and add a nice bit of modern to the classic shape.

This might be the best way in which to celebrate a car brand's 100th anniversary. Arellano has taken the very best of the classic continental and fused a few, epic, modern touches to create a truly spectacular car. The icing on the cake surely is that epic Shelby powerplant that would probably make this car a bit of a sleeper on the drag strip. A 700 hp V8 engine will make any car shift, even if it is a big old Continental. Happy 100th anniversary, Lincoln.
