As the social media feud between Ford and Fiat-Chrysler has heated up recently, the overall winner has to be every fan of aggressive off-roaders. The new Bronco has proven itself capable of potentially dethroning the longstanding Jeep Wrangler by attacking the Rubicon Trail for testing, while FCA has clapped back with the Ram TRX. Jeep has also teased a 392 Hemi-powered Wrangler in response while reviving an American icon in the form of the Grand Wagoneer. But all these new products could still learn a thing or two from old classics, especially vintage SUVs that have been restomodded like this 1970 Jeepster Commando currently listed for sale on the auction website Bring a Trailer.

This build was commissioned between 2011 and 2018 and features all the classic styles of the 1970s with modern performance enhancements and creature comforts under the skin. On the exterior, the truck looks aggressive thanks to a repaint in metallic silver, plus custom fender flares and steel bumpers front and rear. Those are 17-inch American Racing wheels fitted with 35-inch rubber, while the suspension system consists of leaf springs and Bilstein shocks.

Under The Hood

Motivation comes courtesy of a Chevrolet small-block V8 displacing 350ci and equipped with throttle-body fuel injection and an aluminum radiator. The setup routes power to the rear or all four wheels via a four-speed stick shift and a two-speed transfer case, as well as a Dana 44 axle at the front and a Dana 60 axle at the rear. Installed in the front is 4.11 gearing and manual-locking hubs.
