Sometimes at a car auction, some rare and exotic machines end up going under the hammer. Usually, these are real classic cars from the last century, perhaps going as far back as the 1920s, or as late as the 1980s and beyond. And they do tend to go for rather large sums. However, sometimes we do get cars that are often referred to as modern classics popping up now and again, and they are often quite rare. Like this one for example. This is a Maybach 57S Coupe, built under license from Maybach at Xenatec.

A Super-Exclusive Maybach

What makes this particular example so special? Well, the original plan was to produce 100 units of this car. Yet for whatever reason, only 8 of them ended up being produced, making this a super-exclusive Maybach, and more exclusive than it was originally intended to be. These cost a staggering €795,000 (over $960,000) and that excludes VAT and BPM. This is car #4, which was actually ordered by Muammar Gaddafi in 2010 but never delivered after his regime collapsed in 2011.

Under The Hood: 6.0-Liter V12 That Produces 612 Horsepower

via Autoleitner

Out of all the coupes, this is the one with the fewest kilometers on the clock, with only 2,300 being registered. It is certainly in the most outgoing color scheme as well and is in what auctioneer Autoleitner claims is "A1" condition. The car is powered by a 6.0-liter V12 engine that produces 612 hp, it has an automatic transmission and it's got a two-tone finish. It isn’t just stats like this that make this car so impressive.

Fantastic Features

There are a number of fantastic features as well. A rear-view camera, something that is becoming a standard now but less so back in 2010. Distronic remote cruiser control, rear and front parking sensors, as well as electronically adjustable rear headrests, are just a few of the other mod cons that feature in this car. There is a fire extinguisher, a phone in the back, Bluetooth, and the seats also come with a massage feature. The car comes with a full-service booklet and instruction manual, and this is a rare opportunity to own an incredibly rare car. There probably isn’t much else like it on the market right now.
