It's no secret that some people want the Honda S2000 to make a comeback. Famous for being Suki's dynamic drive in 2 Fast 2 Furious, the S2000 is a certified sports car that can give you a run for your money. That said, we're left wondering, "How fast can a S2000 be in a half mile?" Well, this particular Honda says 199.6 miles per hour.
199.6-MPH Half-Mile Run
Is that possible? For a factory Honda S2000, the answer is a big "No!" With 237 hp of max output derived from its 2.2-liter VTEC four-cylinder engine, an S2000 can sprint from nil to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds and reach a top speed of around 149 mph.
In a YouTube clip uploaded by 1320video, Stuart Leiby of T1 Racing Development brought his S2000 to the Indianapolis Airstrip Attack event organized by Shift S3ctor. During his runs, Leiby had been pushing above 190 mph. On one run, he actually managed to go as fast as 199.6 mph (based on his Dragy meter).
Tuned To Over 1,000 HP
In the video, Leiby looks somewhat disappointed that his drive just became the fastest S2000 in the world in the half-mile. After all, he was confident his S2000 could reach a top speed of 200 mph. Leiby's S2000 was just 0.4 mph short of becoming the first to break the 200 mph half-mile barrier.
How did Leiby's S2000 become that fast? No engine swap was made; his S2000 still has the factory F22 engine as its core. But its internals have been heavily upgraded, with the engine now attached to a 67.9-mm turbocharger. In this setup, the S2000 is tuned to deliver 1,000 hp on the wheels, or more than 1,100 hp on the crank.
One Of The Fastest S2000s In The Half-Mile
The video, however, didn’t show the Dragy speed reading. By the event's measurement, the S2000 only went as fast as 198.85 mph. So, it might be difficult to make the half-mile king claim official. Nonetheless, this S2000 can already be considered one of the world's fastest S2000s in the half mile.
