The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer was shown to us earlier this year in its concept form. The "Grand Wagoneer"  has been a prominent and bold nameplate from Jeep in American history. This is because, during the early '80s, the now-deficient AMC decided to travel into unchartered waters. They already had the Wagoneer which was based on a decade-old platform and was beginning to show the age. They took that and pitched in the Grand Wagoneer, which was the very first luxury truck to break cover on American soil.

This helped sprout open an entirely new luxury-SUV segment for the US, that runs strongly, to date. During the '80s the distinctive wood-laden Grand Wagoneer was an insight into the luxury it possessed and stood tall against the likes of Land Rovers, which were considered the go-to luxury 4x4s of the time. The rumours of the Wagoneer and most importantly, the Grand Wagoneer had been doing around for a long time, ever since it was officially announced in 2011, by the then-FCA Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne.

Well, now FCA has transformed into Stellantis (Weird name!) and we also have concrete details on the anticipated 2022 Jeep Wagoneer. There aren't any fancy wood trimming on the outside but it sure is going to be a nostalgic trip. This 3-Row luxury SUV will also be offered in a Plug-In and take on the prominent likes of the all-new 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe, the next-gen Cadillac Escalade, and the German Brute - BMW X7.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is a long-lost revival of America's First "Woody" Luxury SUV from the '80s and is expected to start from $80,000.

A New Direction With Hybrid Powertrains And Rugged Capabilities

The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer will pack a Plug-In Hybrid powertrain that is in line with the automaker's plan on making every single Jeep offering either a mild or plug-in hybrid by 2022. Details are still scarce but as FCA's trend goes in sharing elements among the various automakers in the circle, we suspect it to feature the 3.6L V6 with eTorque (hybrid technology) that also underpins the 2021 RAM 1500 Hybrid that supposedly makes a combined 305 horses.

The higher end of this spectrum will also mostly be given the bigger 5.7L HEMI V8 also with eTorque that packs in 395 hp and 410 lb-ft. It will offer a standard 8-Speed Automatic in both the engine options as well. Talking about shared parts, the 2022 Grand Wagoneer uses the same body-on-frame layout as the RAM 1500 which is quite intriguing as it adds up to its utilitarian capabilities. Jeep might also pack in the 3.0L V6 Diesel unit that could help bring about variety to the pack. All of this hints at a very strong contender not only in the luxury SUV segment but also for full-blown upcoming trucks.

Jeep has taken it up a notch with the interior layout of the 2022 Grand Wagoneer. It is a full-sized 3-row SUV that has taken elegance and dialled it up. Another notable factor is the intense level of technology used in the cabin and which is evident with the sheer number of screens that fill up the dashboard. Captain chairs in the first and second row show us how serious Jeep is about luxury and comfort in the Grand Wagoneer.

The third row is a bench layout but is equally comfortable and spacious as the other two. All of the basic luxury features have been covered including heated and ventilated seats wrapped in diamond-patterned leather. The added width helps in providing for a very lavish seating layout with individual hand-rests for each occupant. The dashboard is its highlighting feature that has more screens that just dash!

It flaunts of 44-inches of screens on the dash that includes - a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 12.1-inch centre infotainment display, a 10.3-inch screen below it for Air-Con and seat controls. It also packs a 10.3-inch screen on the front passenger side that has a privacy film integrated on it and works like a secondary infotainment display.

Jeep has taken a bold new approach for the 2022 Grand Wagoneer in terms of design. It sure has a few nostalgic cues like the 7-slot illuminated front grille and obsidian black treatment on its 24-inch alloy wheels. They have managed to chuck in all of the possible rewinds to link it to the classic Grand Wagoneers of late 1990. But then the most distinctive aspect was its wood trimming on the sides.

Unfortunately, that has gone, but Jeep did add wood to the reincarnated luxury SUV in a very subtle way. The LED headlamps have minute layers of teak that wrap around under the projectors. It is also present on the roof racks that reminds us of the faux wood trim which the oldie had on the rood rack rails. The Wagoneer is all sorted on the inside, but it clearly doesn't go the "futuristic" mile on the outside, apart from the connected front and rear lighting setup.

Pricing, Release Date, And Warranty. The Buyer's Guide Starter Pack

Jeep hasn't released a statement regarding the pricing and release date of the 2022 Grand Wagoneer. But we expect it to start around an MSRP of $80,000 and easily breach the $100,000 mark with the subtle bits of options. So, $100,00 it is for the plush one. But if that sounds a bit too much then, the standard 2022 Jeep Wagoneer will suffice with an expected MSRP of around $65,000.

The release date of 2022 Grand Wagoneer and Wagoneer is expected to be in the summer of 2021 as Jeep would want to be first in this run. Taking the shared aspects into consideration, we expect similar warranty packages as the RAM 1500 and includes:

  • Limited warranty for 3 years / 36,000 miles
  • Powertrain warranty for 5 years / 60,000 miles
  • 3 years of complimentary maintenance
