Considered a pioneer in luxury car manufacturing, Bentley has a reputation for raising the bar with its newest automobiles, and the elite carmaker has done it again with its 2022 Flying Spur.

The redesigned Bentley Flying Spur returned for the 2020 model year, replacing the Mulsanne as the luxury automaker's flagship sedan. Since then, the company has expanded the Flying Spur family with a new driver-focused V8 variant. It is a speedy, capable, and comfortable four-door luxury sedan. Still, Bentley has made it even better for the 2022 model year thanks to new standard tech, comfort features, and a diverse exterior color palette.

In the cabin, 40 interior components have been upgraded along with improved sound insulation to eliminate unwanted noise and vibration in the cabin. These components were rigorously tested in virtual mockups before being added to the physical car using a computer.

With a truckload of features packed beneath its skin, the 2022 Flying Spur seems to be better than ever.

The powertrain of the Flying Spur shall come in two variants. The twin-turbo 4-liter V8 provides a horsepower of 542 HP at a massive 6000 rpm, and the twin-turbo 6-liter W12 shall give a higher power output of 626 HP. This is something that the 2022 model will inherit from its predecessor as upgrading it would be an "overkill for a luxury GT," according to Bentley. The 5-seater sedan, just like the 2021 model, shall have an 8-speed automatic transmission with some impressive gear ratios to provide smooth gliding over the roads with little effect of gear shifts.

The Flying Spur enhances the comfort factor by packing a massive 90-liter fuel tank, reducing the need for stoppages in the luxurious ride. This is supported by excellent fuel economy as the car provides a combined mileage of 20 MPG and has an in-city range of an impressive 476 miles. The Spur becomes a wise choice as this configuration is near-perfect for almost all sorts of uses.

The 5,137-lb handmade chassis has some features that have received a significant upgrade and deserve equal attention when comparing the older models with the new Flying Spur.

A Sleek And Smart Design

The Flying Spur has a host of intelligent design upgrades, which make the performance output higher and gives the car some better-looking angles. Bentley has achieved maximum efficiency by employing virtual prototyping. This means that the design and all the inner components were built and tested virtually in multiple situations before the commencement of production.

This ties in perfectly with Bentley's zero-waste initiative as well. The chassis is more aerodynamic and feels more solid than its predecessors. Due to virtual modeling, the smallest of air cavities have been eliminated. The result is lower noise, vibration, and harshness in some of the louder parts of the cabin. The experience, as Bentley says, should bring the Flying Spur ever closer to W.O. Bentley's idea of a 'dead silent 100-mph car'. A new air ionizer shall help keep nasty, microscopic air particles out of the cabin, and there are new open-pore veneers to make the interior feel just that much more luxe.

A new color, Cambrian Grey, grows the list of available exterior finishes to a broader choice range of 63. The interior can be lavished in new Liquid Amber, Dark Burr Walnut, and Tamo Ash open-pore wood finishes. These veneers are painted with three extremely thin layers of lacquer and are only 0.003 inches thick. For comparison, Bentley's High Gloss lacquer coating is 0.01 inches thick. Many other changes have been made in the interiors and the in-cabin tech to make the Bentley experience richer and give the Flying Spur an extra edge over the competition.

Inside the Flying Spur, one can expect to find a ton of gadgets and features designed to increase the passengers' usability, comfort, and safety. These include a 12.3-inch monitor and a digital fuel gauge panel that can be synced using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This can be employed for navigation assistance and playing media in the car as well. For a more conventional experience, one can use the AM/FM radio on the AUX and Bluetooth connection modules.

To ensure the safety of the passengers, the Flying Spur employs six airbags that work harmoniously with the sensors and computational unit of the car. This smart system provides features like crash-sensing auto-unlock, speed-sensing auto-lock, lane tracking, adaptive cruise control with brake assist, and a lane departure warning.

The Bentley Flying Spur is gaining a lot of traction, and owing to its array of new features, it is only justified. Rumors suggest that the car is set to release in the second quarter of 2022. However, Bentley has not confirmed the release date as of yet.
