Nissan's entry into the mid-size nearly luxury SUV market the Nissan Rogue presents an appealing alternative to models from Ford and Honda. The Rogue shares much of its parts with Nissan's international models the Qashqai and the X-Trail. These all share components with both Renault and Mitsubishi, however Nissan package this in a somewhat unique package. Launching in 2007 the Rogue has seen three generations. Each of these has had more stylish exteriors than competing models such as the 2022 Honda CR-V, appealing to a more youthful demographic. Yet still sensible and safe, with a CVT this won't set your world on fire in terms of dynamics. But coupled with 30mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway the Rogue is an all-around sensible SUV.

What Does The Rogue Get As A Standard?

As standard, all models come with Nissan's Safety Shield. According to Nissan, the Rogue uses 6 different technologies the Nissan Rogue has a low level of autonomous driving. With automatic rear breaking, you won't reverse into anything in a parking lot. A similar system works upfront to both prevent forward collisions and dim high beam headlights for oncoming traffic. Nissan did not skimp on the interior either. For the driver's convenience, Rogues can have three displays. The first is a heads-up -display, once more, a safety technology. There's also a fully digital dashboard on some models and an infotainment display. The luxury doesn't end there, on some trim levels leather seats are available. There's a maximum of 43.3" inches of legroom in the front and 38.5" inches in the rear. This means that although it might be a squeeze, 5 adults could comfortably sit in the car.

Which Are The Rogue's Trim Levels?

The Rogue comes in 5 trim level specifications. The first, S, starts at $27,360. SV costs $29,050, Midnight Edition comes in at $33,245. SL costs $33,710 and Platinum a massive $37,140. Each of these prices is for a front-wheel-drive model, however, they can be all-wheel-drive for a cost of around $1,500. The SV trim also includes Nissan's ProPILOT autonomous driving technology. The Midnight Edition essentially is the same, only the chrome on the exterior is now black and the interior has leatherette seats.

SL and Platinum trims are where the most luxurious features come to the car. Both see the addition of leather-appointed seats, dual panel panoramic moon roof, and 19" inch wheels. Platinum, the highest specification has quilted leather and the digital dashboard as well as CarPlay integration. However, specifying the Rogue this high isn't necessary. The standard car still has more horsepower and torque than the CR-V and RAV-4. The car also offers more head and leg room along with a larger main infotainment screen. What Rogue Trim Is Best?

As one can expect, as a customer spends more money on the Rogue, they got more technology and more premium features. Usually, it's best to opt for a middle-of-the-range trim. In this case an SV or SL. With an enhanced specification you'd have a better ownership experience and not receive a car full of empty buttons. However, when buying the Nissan Rogue, there are more ways to look at this.

Firstly purchasing the Platinum might make more sense. Nissan has withheld CarPlay connectivity for the highest trim level. This might not seem like a big deal, as after all, you can just mount your phone to the dashboard. But when it comes to selling your car these feature change everything. The SUVs that sell quickly and dealers want to have in stock, have larger wheels, phone connectivity, and large sunroofs. It may also help to have the Platinum Premium Package which for $620 fits the tri-zone climate control, heads-up display, and heated rear seats.

The rest of the options list might not be the wisest place to splash your cash though. For $620 the Rogue can have under-body LED lighting, which is unnecessary but always appreciated. On the exterior Nissan offers a range of body protection options and extra styling pieces for the underbody and bumper. Lifestyle accessories such as roof and surfboard racks are available, but if you don't need them don't buy them. You can easily specify a Nissan Rogue Platinum to over $40,000.
