With the arrival of the Ducati Multistrada V4 family, the spectacular V4 Granturismo 4-cylinder V engine, derived from the propeller used by the brand in MotoGP, has arrived in the sport-tourism segment. But, of course, the Pikes Peak version is not a novelty since the Multistrada in this livery has been present in the range of the Bolognese brand for a long time, since 2011.

Still, we had to wait a little longer to enjoy the now traditional version with the last name of the legendary American Race. Now the Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak 2022 is finally here, the most brutal and sporty version of the Italian sport-tourer that remains on the market.

Unfortunately, the mythical hill climb no longer has a motorcycle category now that motorcycles are banned from competing at Pikes Peak. Still, the Pikes Peak versions of the red brand are a tribute to the legendary hill race on American soil.

The V4 shows its more asphalt and sporty side with the new Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak 2022, a beast of the circuit, although it may not seem like it.

Ducati has achieved victory on two occasions - the first in 2010 with the pilot Greg Tracy and in 2018 with Carlin Dunne, who died in 2019 - so the launch of these versions is more than justified.

The decoration is the usual one, in red with white stripes and black details, although this time, it incorporates a large number plate painted on a white background and the front "peak" in carbon fiber.

One of the details that differentiate it from the rest of its sisters is adopting a 17" front wheel "instead of 19", which is more suitable for asphalt. Behind it also recovers the single-sided aluminum swingarm. In addition, the tires are sportier, as it comes standard in this case with the Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV mounted on forged aluminum wheels signed by Marchesini that reduce the weight by 2.7 kg. As a result, the total weight of this model is 472 lbs (-8.9 lbs compared to the V4 S), which provides better handling and greater agility.

The aluminum monocoque chassis was also revised to make the Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak more aggressive. In addition, the new configuration improves ergonomics with footpegs higher and set back (10mm and 10mm, respectively) to maximize lean angle. On the other hand, the handlebar is 15mm lower, 9mm narrower, and made with a less accentuated curved tube.

In the cycling part, the Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak relies on Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 semi-active suspensions, the same technology used by the Ducati Panigale V4 S, good fluidity, and stability on any terrain. Furthermore, the Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak seems to be a superbike in terms of braking since it has the same equipment as the Panigale V4 S.

With a single finger, the rider controls the braking with great ease and with the behavior of the monobloc calipers. Brembo Stylema on exquisite 330mm discs. On the other hand, it maintains its sisters' equipment on the rear end, a 265 mm disc with a floating Brembo caliper.

Light, Compact And Powerful

Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak 2

The 1160cc engine remains the most powerful class without affecting its reliability (valve clearance intervals every 37,000 miles). However, work has been done on the electronic throttle so that its response is a little more direct and sportier in Sport modes and the new Race with special limiter management, more gradual to serve as a warning (the Touring and Urban).

The quick shift has also been tweaked to make these shifts even faster and more precise, even downshifting aggressively above the limiter revs. Combining this with the wheelie control inherited from the Panigale, we have a genuine race bike demeanor.

Of course, the design of the Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak 2022 already conveys its aggressive and competitive ambition. It continues with the characteristics of the saga, with a thin tail and clean and sharp surfaces and the elimination of any superfluous element without function. But it has specific components that reveal its more racing side.

The front beak and the fender made of carbon fiber is perhaps the most striking feature, but the Akrapovic exhaust (homologated) also stands out. In addition, it features a smoked plexiglass trimmed windshield, the gold anodizing of the fork, and, surprisingly, the two-tone black and red seat upholstery with the V4 logo in addition to the Ducati Corse logo on the front peak.

The Most Advanced Multistrada Ever

The new exclusive livery was designed at the Centro Stile Ducati in collaboration with Aldo Drudi, reflecting his spirit of competition. It's inspired by the colors and geometries worn by the MotoGP Desmosedici GP21. In addition, there is a bib holder on both sides of the tank.

Of course, the electronic package of the Ducati Multistrada Pikes Peak 2022 is top-notch, the same as that of the Multistrada V4 S, which includes the standard radar technology on both the front and rear and influencing ACC adaptive cruise control and BSD blind spot detector. In addition, this version has a 6.5" TFT screen" that allows the user to see the GPS navigator thanks to the advanced Ducati Connect system, which enables cell phone mirroring.
